Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Chevrolet Volt (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 1,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 100 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you?re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a hole in the trunk pan for one of the 1/2" fasteners. Measure 4 1/2" toward the front of the vehicle from the existing 1 3/8" plug hole and drill using a 17/32" drill bit.
Yes, trimming is required. You must trim a 2 1/2" x 4" square hole from the center of the underbody panel for the receiver tube, and notch the front of the underbody panel for side plate clearance. Trim diagrams are provided in the manual.
For the receiver tube trim: cut a 2 1/2" x 4" square hole from the center of the underbody panel. For the side plate trim: notch the front of the underbody panel with dimensions of 0.75" height, 3.00" width, and 1.75" depth as shown in the trim diagram.
1. Clear trunk and remove plastic trunk pan insert (4 x 10mm nuts). 2. Remove underbody panel (8 x 7mm screws, 2 x T-15 Torx screws, 1 plastic fastener). 3. Remove 1 3/8" trunk pan plug and drill new hole 4 1/2" toward front. 4. Apply 1/4" silicone caulk bead around holes and spacers, install carriage bolts. 5. Raise hitch onto bolts, loosely install nuts and M10 bolts. 6. Torque fasteners. 7. Trim underbody panel. 8. Reinstall underbody panel and trunk insert.

Silicone caulk is applied as a 1/4" bead around the holes in the trunk pan and on the spacers (CM-SP34, CM-SP28, and CM-SP50) before installation. This seals the connection and prevents water intrusion.
Return the 1 3/8" plug to the vehicle owner for future use. It is removed to access the frame rail weld nuts during installation.
