Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Chevrolet Volt (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 1,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 100 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you?re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

No, drilling is not required. The hitch installation uses existing factory studs and flange nuts on both sides of the vehicle. However, trimming of the underbody panel is required.
You must trim a 2.5" x 4.5" section from the underbody panel using aviation shears. First, mark out this section using masking tape on the underbody panel, then trim using aviation shears. The underbody panel is then reinstalled after the hitch installation is complete.
Yes. Installation requires temporary removal of the underbody panel, bumper fascia, tail lights, and exhaust bracket. These components are removed to access the hitch mounting points and are reinstalled after the hitch is secured. All removed parts are set aside for reinstallation.
All M10 hardware must be torqued to 45.2 ft.-lbs. All M8 hardware must be torqued to 22.9 ft.-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper fastening. These fasteners are initially loosely fastened during hitch positioning and then torqued to final specification in step 7.
From the underbody panel, you must remove: 8 screws using a 7mm socket, 7 plastic nuts using a 10mm socket, 3 torx screws using a T15 torx bit, and 1 plastic push pin using a screwdriver. After removal, mark and trim a 2.5" x 4.5" section, then set the panel aside for reinstallation.
From the wheel wells, you must remove 13 torx screws using a T15 torx bit: 4 in each wheel well, 2 on the driver side at the bottom of the wheel well, and 3 on the passenger side at the bottom of the wheel well. After removing these screws, pull the wheel well back to reveal an additional screw, which you remove using a 7mm socket.
Open the trunk and remove 1 screw using a screwdriver and 2 bolts using a 10mm socket from each tail light. Gently pull the light towards the rear of the car for removal. Unplug the tail lights from the car and set them aside for reinstallation.
Start at the sides and gently pull the fascia out, working towards the rear of the vehicle. Once unhooked from the car, locate and unplug the electrical connector from the bumper fascia. Set the fascia aside for reinstallation.
Remove 6 M10 nuts (3 on each side) using a 15mm socket from the bumper beam. On the passenger side, locate the exhaust bracket and remove 2 M8 bolts using a 13mm socket. Lift the exhaust bracket up and over the clips to remove the bumper beam. Set the bumper beam aside for reinstallation.
Raise the hitch into position, centering it on the vehicle. Raise the bumper beam back into position over the hitch and loosely fasten the 6 M10 nuts removed in step 5. Raise the exhaust bracket back into position and loosely fasten the 2 M8 bolts removed in step 5. Do not fully tighten these fasteners until step 7.
After torquing all M10 hardware to 45.2 ft.-lbs and all M8 hardware to 22.9 ft.-lbs, reinstall all removed components by following steps 1-4 in reverse order. This includes reinstalling the underbody panel, wheel wells, tail lights, bumper fascia, and exhaust bracket.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the hitch during use.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Before beginning installation, read all instructions thoroughly. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce the time required.
