This 5th wheel safety chain anchor assembly provides a backup connection between your truck and 5th wheel trailer. The chain bracket bolts onto the CrossWing head piece that mounts onto your 5th wheel kingpin. When hitching up your trailer, the chain hooks link up to the 5th wheel loops anchored into the industry-standard rails in your truck bed. This kit includes the safety chain assembly and anchor loops. It is designed to fit CrossWing models that mount onto industry-standard 5th wheel rails.

The kit includes: one safety chain assembly, two safety-chain loops, one 1/2" rail pin, one rail pin clip, one 1/2" hex bolt, and one 1/2" nylock nut. All fasteners are included; no additional hardware is required for installation.
The CURT 16612 is designed to work with truck bed hitch base rail systems. The base rails must be installed according to the rail kit manufacturer's recommended specifications before installing the safety chain assembly. Refer to your specific rail kit documentation for compatibility details.
You will need: a torque wrench, a 3/4" socket, and a 3/4" wrench. These tools are required to properly secure the 1/2" hex bolt to the specified torque of 65 ft-lbs.
Align the rear hole on the upper weldment with the hole on the safety chain assembly. Secure them together using the 1/2" hex bolt (#5) and 1/2" nylock nut (#6). Torque the bolt to 65 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
Both safety chain loops (#2) must be installed into the base rail closest to the rear of the truck. Each base rail must have a bolt in either of the marked holes. Check for obstructions before drilling.
After installing the safety chain loops into the base rails, clasp each hook to its corresponding loop. Ensure the chains are properly seated and secure.
The 1/2" hex bolt must be torqued to 65 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness. This specification applies to the bolt securing the safety chain assembly to the upper weldment.
Before each use, inspect the unit for proper operation and check for worn, damaged, or missing parts. Confirm that the safety chains are long enough to support your maximum turning radius; chains without adequate length may bind and cause damage to your vehicle, hitch, and/or trailer. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately. Never operate with a damaged part.
