This 5th wheel safety chain anchor assembly provides a backup connection between your truck and 5th wheel trailer. The chain bracket bolts onto the CrossWing head piece that mounts onto your 5th wheel kingpin. When hitching up your trailer, the chain hooks link up to the anchor plate secured over the gooseneck ball in your truck bed. This kit includes the safety chain assembly and gooseneck anchor plate. It is designed to fit CrossWing models for single-point gooseneck hitches.

The CURT 16614 includes one safety chain assembly and one safety chain plate. The assembly attaches to the upper weldment of your 5th wheel hitch using a 1/2" hex bolt and nylock nut, which are provided.
The CURT 16614 is designed for the CrossWing™ 5th wheel hitch. The manual confirms it attaches to the upper weldment and the safety chain plate is placed over the gooseball before installing the CrossWing™. For confirmation that your specific hitch model is compatible, contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634.
You will need a torque wrench, a 3/4" socket, and a 3/4" wrench. These are required to properly secure the 1/2" hex bolt to the specified torque of 65 ft-lbs.
Align the rear hole on the upper weldment with the hole on the safety chain assembly. Secure them together using a 1/2" hex bolt and nylock nut, then torque to 65 ft-lbs. Place the safety chain plate over the gooseball before installing the CrossWing™. After installation, secure each hook to its corresponding loop.
The 1/2" hex bolt must be torqued to 65 ft-lbs. This is the standard torque specification for all 1/2" bolts on this product unless otherwise noted.
Before each use, inspect the unit for proper operation and check for worn, damaged, or missing parts. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately. Never operate the product with a damaged part. After connecting your safety chains to your trailer, confirm the chains are long enough to support your maximum turning radius; chains without adequate length may bind, resulting in damage to your vehicle, hitch, and trailer.
Check the hardware torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that. Retorque to 65 ft-lbs if needed.
Replace worn or damaged parts immediately. Replace the unit's wear when it exceeds 1/8" from the original surface. Never operate the product with a damaged part.
