The CURT Helux Gooseneck Pin Box is a 5th wheel hitch coupling assembly that connects a 5th wheel trailer to a tow vehicle. It uses a ball-and-coupler mechanism to secure the trailer's upper deck to the truck bed. The product is available in six different pin weight ratings (part numbers 2024044575 through 2024044579) to match the specific weight of your 5th wheel trailer.
You must determine your 5th wheel's pin weight before purchase. The best method is to take your fully loaded 5th wheel (including all cargo, ATVs, motorcycles, etc.) to a certified scale such as CAT Scale. Weigh the tow vehicle and 5th wheel together, then weigh the tow vehicle alone, and subtract to find the pin weight. Alternatively, multiply your 5th wheel's GVWR by 22% (0.22) for an approximate pin weight. Match your pin weight to the correct model: 1650–2144 lb (2024044575), 2145–2484 lb (2024044574), 2485–2984 lb (2024044576), 2985–3469 lb (2024044577), 3470–3964 lb (2024044578), or 3965–5000 lb (2024044579). Actual weight is preferred over approximation.
Each model has a minimum (unloaded) and maximum (loaded) pin weight rating. Part 2024044575: 1350–2350 lb; 2024044574: 1550–2700 lb; 2024044576: 1800–3200 lb; 2024044577: 2200–3900 lb; 2024044578: 2450–4300 lb; 2024044579: 2800–5000 lb. The minimum weight applies when the RV has no cargo and empty fresh, black, and gray water tanks. The maximum weight applies when cargo is loaded including toy hauler area and tanks are travel-ready.

Required tools include: SAE socket set, SAE wrenches, box-end wrench set, tape measure, level, safety glasses, and an air compressor. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The kit includes: one gooseneck assembly, ten hex bolts (5/8"-11 x 1 3/4", grade 5), ten serrated-flange nuts (5/8"-11, grade 5), two safety chains, and one cable release. Do not reuse mounting hardware from the previous pin box; use only the new hardware supplied with this kit.
A minimum of two people are required to support the weight of the pin box during installation. The pin box assembly weighs 170 pounds. A forklift may be used to lift the gooseneck into position as an alternative.
Yes. Level the RV front-to-back using the landing gear before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process.
Yes. You must remove the fasteners securing the old pin box and carefully lower it from the mounting bracket before installing the new gooseneck. Be sure to properly support the old pin box before removing mounting bolts to prevent injury or damage. An unsupported pin box during removal can result in death, serious personal injury, or severe product and property damage.
The pin box height must be adjusted using the trailer bracket holes to ensure two critical conditions: a level towing setup, and a minimum clearance of 7 inches between the top of the truck bed and the underside of the front of the 5th wheel. The bottom of the gooseneck coupler to the center of the first mounting hole is 15 ½". Each set of holes above the first hole is graduated in 2" increments. The bottom of the gooseneck coupler to the center of the top mounting hole is 21 ½". Adjustment of the gooseneck mounting height, tow vehicle height, or suspension may be necessary to achieve a level towing condition.
Ten hex bolts and ten serrated-flange nuts are used. Install five bolts and nuts on each side: three fasteners in the forward position and two fasteners in the rearward position.
Torque the mounting bolts to 120 ft-lb±5 ft-lb. Failure to properly torque the mounting bolts can result in a failure, causing property damage, severe personal injury, or death.
The Breakaway Switch Kit may be located on either the RV mounting bracket or the previous pin box. If it is installed on the previous pin box, you must uninstall it and install it per the manufacturer's recommendations. The manual does not provide installation instructions for the Breakaway Switch Kit itself.
A coupler lock is a padlock with a 2.5" lock pin length and 11/32" max pin diameter. It locks into the hole on the gooseneck to secure the coupler latch in the locked position.
1. Place chocks firmly against the front and rear of each RV tire. Lower the tow vehicle's tailgate if necessary to allow the gooseneck to clear. 2. Measure clearance: measure from ground to the bed of the tailgate, measure from the tow vehicle bed to the top of the hitch ball, add these together, and verify the measurement to the bottom of the coupler is at least 2". 3. Back the tow vehicle slowly toward the RV and position the coupler directly over the hitch ball. Place the tow vehicle in PARK and set the parking brake. 4. Lower the RV until the coupler automatically latches. Connect the safety chains to the tow vehicle anchors. 5. Verify the coupler latch is in the locked position. 6. Connect the 7-pin power cable and breakaway switch connector to the tow vehicle. Ensure the 5th wheel pulls in a level condition and maintain a minimum 7 inches clearance between the RV and tow vehicle cab and bed rails.
1. Park the 5th wheel and chock the tires firmly, front and rear. Place the tow vehicle in PARK and set the parking brake. 2. Remove the coupler lock if installed. Disconnect the 7-way power plug, breakaway switch connection, and safety chains at the tow vehicle. 3. Disengage the gooseneck coupler by pulling the cable release toward the rear in the "hold open" position, locking it into the cable hook. 4. Extend the landing gear to lift the front of the 5th wheel until the gooseneck clears the hitch ball. Release the cable release from the hook. 5. Pull the tow vehicle clear of the 5th wheel and level the RV.
Be mindful of pinch points while handling the gooseneck. Any place on the gooseneck with moving parts or where two parts come together can be a pinch point and cause serious physical damage. Designated pinch points include: spring and shock areas, the coupler and locking mechanism, and the pivot point of the upper and lower jaw.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Properly support the current pin box throughout removal and the new gooseneck during installation to prevent death, serious personal injury, or severe product and property damage. Be sure to properly support the pin box before removing mounting bolts.
Safety chains and the cable release must be stowed to avoid catching on the tow vehicle. Property and personal damage could occur if they are not properly stowed. The cable release can either be stowed in the hook or lay free in the tow vehicle once the coupler latch has been closed.

The coupler needs to be checked for grease and maintained. The hitch ball should also have an application of grease. There is a grease zerk in the gooseneck coupler; apply grease to the hitch ball and coupler ball socket to avoid galling of similar metals.

Excessive chucking may be caused by the gooseneck coil spring or cargo distribution. Inspect the gooseneck coil spring for condition and any possible damage. Be sure cargo is balanced from side to side and front to back.

Look for damage on the shock or a disconnected shock; reconnect or replace if needed. Hitch mechanisms can also cause noise; verify that unwanted noise is not coming from the hitch. The hitch manufacturer can provide guidelines for this check.
