The Curt Helux Pin Box is a replacement fifth wheel hitch pin box assembly that connects a fifth wheel trailer to a tow vehicle. It uses a spring-loaded jaw mechanism to grip the kingpin on the trailer's pin box. The product is available in seven different models (part numbers 2024044568 through 2024044572), each rated for different pin weight capacities ranging from 1880 lb to 6000 lb when fully loaded.
You must determine your trailer's pin weight before purchasing. The pin weight is the downward force the trailer exerts on the hitch. The most accurate method is to take your fully loaded fifth wheel (including all cargo, ATVs, motorcycles, water tanks, etc.) to a certified scale such as a CAT Scale. Weigh the tow vehicle and trailer together, then weigh the tow vehicle alone, and subtract to find the pin weight. Alternatively, multiply your trailer's GVWR by 22% (0.22) for an approximate pin weight. Match your pin weight to the appropriate model: 2024044568 (1880–2377 lb), 2024044567 (2378–2722 lb), 2024044569 (2723–3165 lb), 2024122233 (3166–3712 lb), 2024044570 (3713–4332 lb), 2024044571 (4333–4900 lb), or 2024044572 (4901–6000 lb).
Yes, but the pin box is designed to operate within specific loaded and unloaded weight ranges. Each model has a minimum pin weight (unloaded, with empty water tanks) and a maximum pin weight (fully loaded). For example, part number 2024044572 has a minimum pin weight of 3290 lb and a maximum of 6200 lb. The pin box will function across this range, but you must select the model whose range includes your actual loaded pin weight. If your loaded pin weight falls outside a model's range, you risk improper hitch operation.

After installation, you must perform a hitching and pull test to verify proper operation. First, adjust the trailer height using the landing gear so the bottom of the trailer's pin box is 1/2" to 1" below the hitch skid plate. Then, back the truck slowly toward the trailer until the kingpin slides into the receiver and the hitch closes. Finally, perform a pull test: chock the trailer wheels, apply the trailer brakes, and slowly pull forward. If properly hitched, the trailer should not move. If the trailer separates, repeat the hitching procedure.
The bottom of the trailer's pin box should be positioned 1/2" to 1" below the top of the hitch skid plate. This positioning ensures the kingpin will slide into the receiver correctly and rest fully inside the jaw. Do not attempt to hitch the trailer by using trailer jacks to lower the trailer and kingpin, as this could result in the kingpin resting on top of the skid plate instead of within the hitch opening, which may result in death or serious injury.

If the trailer separates from the hitch during the pull test, the trailer is not properly hitched. Stop immediately and repeat the hitching procedure from the beginning. Ensure the trailer height is adjusted so the bottom of the pin box is 1/2" to 1" below the hitch skid plate, back the truck slowly until the kingpin slides into the receiver, and verify the hitch is latched in the closed position per the hitch manufacturer's instructions.
