A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. The hitch requires trimming of the front bumper fascia and underbody panel. The lower fascia trim must be notched to fit around the receiver tube. No drilling is required.
The kit includes: 5 carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 2-1/2 inch, Grade 8), 5 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8), 5 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00 inch), 1 installation spacer (0.375 inch), and 1/2 inch fishwire.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing frame slots and holes. Installation involves fishwiring carriage bolts through the frame slots and fastening with flange nuts.
The manual does not specify required tools. Torque all 1/2-inch fasteners to 110 ft.-lbs. 6. Notch the lower fascia trim to fit around the receiver tube and reposition it.
Fishwiring is a technique to route the carriage bolts through the frame slots without removing the hitch or frame. The 1/2-inch fishwire included in the kit is used to guide the carriage bolts through the slots located on the inside of the frame rails, then the bolts are pulled out through the hitch side plate holes for fastening.
The circular spacer (part CM-SP4, 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00 inch) is placed between the mounting arm and the frame before fastening with the 1/2-inch flange nut. This ensures proper alignment and load distribution. Five spacers are included in the kit.
The side plate may be snug fitting over the sway arms during installation. You will need to rotate and push it into position carefully to ensure proper alignment before fastening.

Find your vehicle's GAWR in the owner's manual or on the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale.
Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use the ball mount or hitch receiver itself as an anchor point, as this can result in severe personal injury or death.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and front mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching the return cable to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
