A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. You will need: a torque wrench, ratchet, 19mm socket, 13/16" socket, and 13/16" wrench. The 13/16" wrench is used to access fasteners from underneath the frame. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to specific values: 130 ft-lbs for 9/16" fasteners and 86 ft-lbs for M12 fasteners.
No, bumper removal is optional. However, removing the bumper may make it easier to access the frame for inserting hex bolts and spacers. If you choose to remove it, support the bumper properly after removing the four M12 hex nuts, then reinstall it after the hitch is secured.

Your vehicle's existing M12 bumper bracket bolts and hex nuts are reused.
Torque all 9/16" fasteners (the hitch bolts and flange nuts) to 130 ft-lbs. Torque all M12 fasteners (the bumper mounting bolts) to 86 ft-lbs. Use a calibrated torque wrench to ensure accuracy. These torque values must be applied after the hitch is fully assembled and aligned.
1. Remove the four M12 hex nuts from the bumper mounting bolts and support the bumper. 2. Raise the hitch into position, aligning its holes with the frame holes and existing bumper bolts. 3. Thread the fishwire spacers and 9/16-12 hex bolts through the frame rail ends, frame, and out through the hitch. Secure with 9/16" hex flange nuts. 4. The front axle GAWR is the maximum weight your vehicle's front axle is designed to carry. You must not exceed this rating when using the 31310, as exceeding it may overload the front axle and suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury. Find your vehicle's GAWR in the owner's manual or on the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure your loaded vehicle's gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels on a scale.
