Part 52104 is a Curt Manufacturing custom wiring harness that integrates your truck's factory taillight wiring with a 4-flat trailer connector. It allows you to connect a trailer with functioning lights to your truck while maintaining your vehicle's taillight operation. The harness includes yellow and green wires that tap into the driver and passenger side taillights, a white ground wire, and a 4-flat connector for the trailer.

You will need: ratchet, 8mm socket, socket extension, drill, 3/32" drill bit, fish wire (or equivalent such as a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string), and a cutting tool. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery in the engine compartment on the passenger side and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation. This is a required safety step.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol). This can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Keep tools clear of the positive terminal during installation.
Open the tailgate and use an 8mm socket to remove the two bolts securing the taillights in place. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle. Then carefully remove each taillight straight back from the vehicle. Locate the vehicle taillight wiring connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight aside in a safe place.
Fish wire is a tool used to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. Make sure the wire is long enough to stick out on the other side. Insert the fish wire through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the fish wire or harness gets hung up, you may have to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Fish wire can be anything from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string depending on what is needed.
Beginning on the driver side, drop a fish wire down inside the cavity where the taillight was removed. From under the vehicle, attach the yellow wire to the fish wire and pull up into the taillight opening. Attach the custom wiring harness to the taillight. Re-attach the factory harness to the taillight and the T-connection in the custom wiring harness. Route the green wire over to the passenger side, zip tying as needed along the rear bumper. Repeat this process using the green wire on the passenger side.
Yes. You will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole to create a grounding point for the white ground wire. Locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle, or drill a new 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint before drilling. Check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and/or personal injury.
The manual does not provide a torque specification for the two bolts that secure the taillights. Consult your vehicle's service manual or contact Curt Manufacturing for the correct torque value.
Route the 4-flat harness above the frame and below the bed of the truck and along the driver-side frame rail to the front of the truck (Step 7). Once the 4-flat harness is just behind the driver-side front wheel, route the harness to the rear of the driver-side wheel well, then over to the driver-side rear inner wheel well (Step 8). From the engine compartment on the driver side next to the hood hinge, run a fish wire down between the inner fender and the outer fender. Pull the wheel well panel back and locate the end of the fish wire. Attach the 4-flat to the fish wire and pull to the top of the engine compartment (Step 9). Pull the 4-flat up between the inner and outer fender and route it along the driver-side inner fender, zip tying in place as needed and under the air intake to the front of the truck (Step 10).
Locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle. If no suitable existing fastener is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint. Secure the white ground wire with the ring terminal on the existing fastener or with the provided ground screw.
Once the custom wiring harness is installed, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. You can also use a test light to check for proper function.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. This is the only maintenance requirement stated in the manual.
