Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Ford Focus. CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

Yes, the Curt 58905 is designed specifically for the Ford Focus Hatchback. The kit connects to the vehicle's factory wiring harness connectors at the rear and provides a 4-Flat connector for towing applications. The harness is routed through the rear wheel well and engine compartment to a bracket mounted near the front of the vehicle.
Ford Focus Hatchback only.
The kit includes: (1) Wiring Harness with 4-Flat Connector, (1) 48" 4-Flat Extension, (20) 15" Cable Ties, (1) 4-Flat Bracket, (1) Adhesive Cable Tie Pad, and (3) #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws. Two of the screws are used to attach the ring terminal on the White wire; the remaining two screws attach the 4-Flat bracket.
A drill with a 3/32" bit is required. A fish tape is needed to route the 4-Flat harness through the rear and front wheel wells. A screwdriver is needed to remove plastic fasteners and install screws.
Open the rear hatch and remove all floor covers and foam trays around the spare tire. Remove the rear threshold plate by removing 4 plastic fasteners (2 on each side). Pull back the felt liner to access the taillight plastic wing nut. Remove the plastic wing nut and gently pull the taillight away from the vehicle, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs. Remove the grommets on both sides of the vehicle to allow the RV harness to fit through.
Locate the vehicle's factory wiring harness connectors (shown in Figure 3) and separate them. Inspect for dirt and debris and clean if necessary. Starting on the driver's side, place the RV harness ends containing the Yellow wire up behind the felt liner and out through the grommet opening. Plug the RV harness into the separated vehicle harness connectors until they lock into place. Pull on the connectors to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger side for the connector containing Green wires.
Two 3/32" holes are required. The first hole is drilled near the RV harness ends within reach of the White wire and ring terminal, on a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the rear. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal surface before drilling. The second set of two 3/32" holes is drilled at the front of the vehicle to mount the 4-Flat bracket. Use the bracket as a template to mark the hole locations. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces or through the vehicle body.
Yes. You must drill two 3/32" holes: one near the rear for the ground wire ring terminal, and two at the front to mount the 4-Flat bracket. Do not drill into exposed surfaces or through the vehicle body.
The 4-Flat Harness uses the following color code: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal. The White wire has a ring terminal that must be attached to a clean metal surface on the vehicle using one of the #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends within reach of the White wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose a clean metal surface and drill a 3/32" hole. Attach the ring terminal on the White wire using one of the #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws provided.
Cut the cable ties on the 4-Flat portion of the harness. Route it down through the bumper opening (Figure 5). Remove the clip in the rear wheel well area and use a fish tape to route the harness up and over the rear wheel well to the bumper area. Secure the 4-Flat to the fish tape and pull it through the wheel well. Remove remaining clips holding the trim plate below the doors and route the 4-Flat behind the trim towards the front of the vehicle until reaching the front driver's wheel well. From inside the engine compartment, route the fish tape down through the front wheel well and secure the 4-Flat to it, then pull up through the wheel well into the engine compartment. Route the 4-Flat to the location near the front of the vehicle where the bracket will be mounted.
Find a location suitable to mount the 4-Flat bracket near the front of the vehicle (shown in Figure 8). Using the bracket as a template, mark two holes and drill two 3/32" holes. Attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws. Take care not to drill through the body or any exposed surface.
Make sure to avoid areas that contain moving parts or could cut, pinch or burn the wires when routing the 4-Flat harness towards the front of the vehicle. Also avoid routing the harness near fuel lines as it may cause fuel to ignite. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces or through the vehicle body. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
Avoid routing the harness near moving parts, fuel lines, or areas where wires could be cut, pinched or burned. Do not drill into exposed surfaces or through the vehicle body. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Ford Focus Hatchback. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp. Verify that the tail lights, right turn and brake signal (Green wire), and left turn and brake signal (Yellow wire) operate correctly.
At the rear of the vehicle, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the cable ties provided. Re-install the taillights and anything else removed during installation. When not in use, store the 4-Flat extension in the vehicle's glove box.
The Curt 58905 is an RV towing harness that connects a Ford Focus Hatchback to a motorhome or RV. It provides a 4-Flat connector that transmits brake, tail light, and turn signal functions from the towing vehicle to the RV. The harness integrates with the vehicle's factory wiring system and routes through the wheel wells to a bracket mounted near the front of the vehicle.
The 48" 4-Flat Extension is a connector cable that plugs into the RV harness on one end and connects to the motorhome on the other end. It transmits the brake, tail light, and turn signal functions to the RV. When not in use, it should be stored in the vehicle's glove box.
Yes. You must pull back the felt liner to reveal the plastic wing nut holding the vehicle's taillights in place. Remove the plastic wing nut and gently pull the taillight away from the vehicle, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs. After installation is complete, re-install the taillights.
You do not need to fully remove the grommets. On both sides of the vehicle, remove the grommet and make a small slit in it to allow the RV harness to fit through, taking care not to damage the existing factory wire harness.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Consult the vehicle's service manual or contact Curt Manufacturing for guidance on this safety requirement.
