Route the RV harness with connectors containing yellow wires (driver's side) and green wires (passenger's side) behind the felt liner to the taillight location. Separate the vehicle connector and position the RV connectors between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock into place, then pull on them to ensure the locks are engaged (steps 4 and 7).

From the passenger side rear wheel well, use a fish tape to pull the 4-flat up and over the wheel well (step 10), then route it underneath the trim panel on the passenger side and secure with cable ties (step 11). Place a cable tie pad on the vehicle frame and secure the 4-flat with another cable tie (step 12). Finally, from inside the engine compartment, route a fish tape down through the wheel well, secure the 4-flat to it, and pull it into the engine compartment (step 13).
Unseat the grommet, make a slit in it, and fit it around the 4-flat wire. If needed, apply silicone around the area to seal it (step 8).
Avoid routing the 4-flat harness near moving parts, areas where wires could be cut, pinched or burned, and fuel lines. Routing the harness near fuel lines may cause fuel to ignite. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury or loss of life (step 10 caution).
With the 4-flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Chevrolet Malibu. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp (step 15).
The manual states: "When not in use store the 4-flat extension in the vehicle's glove box." This indicates the extension is intended to be disconnected and stored rather than left permanently connected.

Read the instructions thoroughly before beginning. Then open the trunk and remove the threshold by pulling up on it. Remove the floor cover and set both items aside. On both sides, carefully remove the 3 clips on the felt liner (steps 1–2).
Underneath the vehicle, route the 4-flat along the bumper frame to the passenger side. Clean a spot on the bumper and apply a cable tie pad, then secure the 4-flat with a cable tie (step 9, Figure 6).
On the left side of the passenger's side rear wheel well, remove the screw holding the wheel well cover (step 10, Figure 7). This allows access to route the fish tape up and over the wheel well to pull the 4-flat harness.
The fish tape is used to route the 4-flat harness through tight spaces. In step 10, it is routed up and over the wheel well and secured to the 4-flat to pull it over the wheel well. In step 13, a fish tape is routed down through the wheel well from inside the engine compartment, secured to the 4-flat, and used to pull the harness into the engine compartment.
At the rear of the vehicle, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the cable ties provided. Then re-install the taillights to the vehicle (step 16).
