You will need: a pair of pliers (to remove push pins and disconnect connectors), a drill with a 3/32" bit (to drill mounting holes), and a fish tape (to route the 4-Flat wire through the wheel well area). A screwdriver may be helpful for reassembly. The manual does not specify whether a fish tape is included.
Open the trunk and remove the spare tire floor cover. Remove the threshold plate by using pliers to remove two push pins on its front. Then use pliers to remove four push pins on the felt trunk liner on both sides. Gently pull back the felt trunk liner to locate the taillight connectors on both sides of the vehicle.
Starting on the driver side, position the RV harness with connectors containing Yellow wires between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock into place. Pull on the connectors to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger side with the connector containing Green wires.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 3/32" holes: one for the ground screw near the RV harness ends (Step 6), and two more for the 4-Flat bracket mounting (Step 13). Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal before drilling.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal and drill a 3/32" hole. Attach the ring terminal on the White wire using one of the #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws provided.
Cut the cable ties on the 4-Flat portion of the harness. Route it under the opening of the side wall panel to the center of the vehicle near the grommet. Remove the grommet and make a slit to allow the 4-Flat wire to pass through; apply silicone to seal. Route the wire under the vehicle behind the bumper to the passenger quarter panel. Use a fish tape to pull the connector up and over the rear passenger wheel well. Continue routing towards the front along brake lines, securing with cable ties at brake line brackets. Follow brake lines into the engine compartment and along the driver side of the engine to the front frame rail.
Avoid routing the 4-Flat harness near moving parts, fuel lines, or areas where wires could be cut, pinched or burned. The manual warns: "Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury or loss of life." Secure wires to the vehicle's crossmember and factory wire harness with cable ties to prevent movement and contact with hazards.
Locate a suitable position to mount the 4-Flat bracket. Using the bracket as a template, mark the two holes and drill two 3/32" holes. Attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws provided. Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces.
The 4-Flat Harness Color Code is: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Chevrolet Cruze. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp. The manual does not provide detailed testing procedures beyond confirming that lights and signals operate.
