Towing your vehicle behind your RV is a great way to experience more of the adventure on your cross-country excursions. Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Chevrolet Sonic. CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

The CURT 58936 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Chevrolet Sonic (Part #BKDK58936) fits the following vehicles: 2012-2016 Chevrolet Sonic. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The CURT 58936 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Chevrolet Sonic (Part #BKDK58936) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 58936 is designed specifically for the Chevrolet Sonic Sedan. The manual states it fits this model. If you have a different vehicle model or body style, you should verify compatibility with the manufacturer or a fitment database, as this harness is not confirmed to fit other vehicles.
The kit includes: (1) Wiring Harness with 4-Flat Connector, (1) 48" 4-Flat Extension, (20) 15" Cable Ties, (1) 4-Flat Bracket, (1) Adhesive Cable Tie Pad, and (3) #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws.
You will need: a pair of pliers (to remove push pins), a Phillips screwdriver (to remove taillight screws), and a drill with a 3/32" drill bit (to drill holes for the ground screw and bracket mounting). A silicone sealant may also be needed if the grommet requires slitting.
Yes. You must remove the spare tire floor cover, the threshold plate (by removing four push pins), and pull back the felt trunk liner on both sides to access the vehicle's taillight connectors. These items are reinstalled at the end of installation.
After locating the vehicle's taillight connectors (which resemble those on the RV harness), press the locking tabs to separate them. Position the RV harness with connectors containing Green wires between the separated vehicle connectors on the passenger side first, then press firmly until they lock. Repeat for the driver side with the Yellow wire connectors. Pull on the connectors to confirm the locks are engaged.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 3/32" holes: one for attaching the ground screw near the RV harness ends (Step 7), and two more 3/32" holes for mounting the 4-Flat bracket at the front of the vehicle (Step 13). Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surface. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal before drilling.
The 4-Flat Harness color code is: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
Route the 4-Flat portion through the opening behind the taillight (Step 10), pushing the grommet back into the hole around the wire. If necessary, make a slit in the grommet and apply silicone to seal. Continue routing underneath the vehicle behind the passenger quarter panel to the brake line location, securing with cable ties at brake line brackets. Follow brake lines up into the engine compartment and along the passenger side of the engine to the front frame rail. Avoid moving parts, fuel lines, and areas where wires could be cut, pinched, or burned.
Avoid routing the harness near moving parts, fuel lines, or areas where wires could be cut, pinched, or burned. Do not drill through the vehicle body or exposed surfaces. If the grommet must be slit, apply silicone around the area to seal it. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Chevrolet Sonic. Note that these functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp. When not in use, store the 4-Flat extension in the vehicle's glove box.
Yes. Remove the passenger side taillight by removing two Phillips screws, gently pulling the taillight towards you while taking care not to damage alignment pins. Pull the grommet away from the body, pull the connector through the grommet opening, and set the taillight to the side. The taillight is reinstalled at the end of installation (Step 15).
The #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screw is used to attach the ring terminal on the White wire to a clean metal surface on the vehicle. Locate a clean and accessible mounting location near the RV harness ends, remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal, drill a 3/32" hole, and attach the ring terminal using the ground screw provided.
Mount the 4-Flat bracket at a suitable position at the front of the vehicle, along the passenger side of the engine near the front frame rail of the engine compartment. Use the bracket as a template to mark two holes, drill two 3/32" holes, and attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws. Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or exposed surfaces.
Secure the 4-Flat wire using the cable ties and adhesive cable tie pad provided. Mount the adhesive cable tie pad on the panel behind the passenger quarter panel and secure the 4-Flat wire with a cable tie (Step 11). Continue securing the harness with cable ties at brake line brackets as you route it forward (Step 12). At the rear of the vehicle, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the remaining cable ties (Step 15).
The Curt 58936 is designed for the Chevrolet Sonic Sedan only. Verify your vehicle model matches before purchasing.
