On the driver side, use a panel trim removal tool to remove the push fastener, then remove the rubber trim cover by pulling straight back and removing the pressure clips by hand. Remove the two Phillips head screws securing the taillight to the vehicle, then carefully pull the taillight straight back. Locate and separate the three connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat on the passenger side.
In Step 4, remove the two Phillips head screws in the rear wheel well liner. Gently pull outward on the bumper cover with your fingers to separate it from the vehicle body. Work around to the rear, applying pressure in the taillight pocket with a panel trim removal tool to completely release the corner of the bumper cover. Do not perform this step in cold conditions. Repeat on the passenger side.
In Step 5, locate the custom RV harness end with the yellow wire and feed it behind the bumper cover from behind the edge loosened just behind the rear tire. Route the wire into the groove where the factory harness comes up behind the bumper cover. Connect the custom harness to the factory harness, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place.
Route the harness in stages: (1) Drop it just above the driver-side exhaust tip and route the green wire end along the rear bumper, loosely zip-tying in place (Step 6). (2) Route the 4-flat above the rear suspension and between the driver-side sub frame and fuel tank (Step 8). (3) Route along the hard fuel and brake lines to the rear of the front wheel, then between the vehicle body and front suspension mount (Step 9). (4) Use fish wire to pull it between the body and driver-side front fender (Step 10A). (5) Route under the engine compartment weather stripping and along the driver-side inner fender, mounting near the battery just behind the headlight (Step 11).

From under the vehicle, pull back the inner wheel well, locate the fish wire, and attach it to the 4-flat. Pull the 4-flat between the vehicle body and the front fender. Fish wire can be made from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope, or string. If the wire gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist it to loosen it.
In Step 11, route the 4-flat under the engine compartment weather stripping and along the driver-side inner fender. Mount it near the battery, just behind the headlight in the engine compartment. Then route to just behind the passenger-side headlight and mount to the inner fender.
Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. This ensures the vehicle's electrical system is not overloaded and the trailer lights function safely.
In Step 8, route the 4-flat above the rear suspension and between the driver-side sub frame and fuel tank. In Step 9, route it along the hard fuel and brake lines to the rear of the front wheel, then between the vehicle body and front suspension mount. Throughout routing, keep the 4-flat away from hot spots, pinch points, and moving objects using zip ties as needed. In Step 12, do not over-tighten zip ties, as this can cause unnecessary strain and wire breakage over time.
In Step 7, the manual states that once the custom wiring harness is installed, verify that it is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. This confirms the harness is properly connected and operational.
