Once the shank is installed in the receiver hitch on your vehicle, the cargo carrier can be mounted in seconds with very little effort. No more climbing down on your hands and knees to line up rusty, grimy components. The shank has an integrated rest point to line the cargo carrier up perfectly, and it features a plastic lining for reduced vibrations. Pop on the carrier when you need it and easily pop it off when you don't. The ActiveLink shank is also compatible with other ActiveLink accessories, allowing you to swap out your cargo carrier with a bike rack, ball mount or whatever the day's adventure demands. The weight capacity depends on the ActiveLink™ shank used: 500 lbs (227 kg) with the 2" shank (#18402), or 350 lbs (159 kg) with the 1-1/4" shank (#18401). Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Yes. A support strap is required when the cargo carrier is used with a 1-1/4" receiver hitch. Failure to use a support strap will void the warranty and could result in injury or property damage.
You will need an open wrench (17mm), a torque wrench, and a socket (17mm).
All M10 hardware (eye bolts, lock nuts, and hex bolts) must be tightened to 12 ft-lbs. The anti-rattle bolt on the ActiveLink™ shank should be tightened to 50 ft-lbs for operational use. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the product or hardware.
Do not carry flammable items or allow exhaust fumes to blow directly on cargo, as this is a fire hazard. Do not carry loads taller, wider or deeper than the carrier. Do not use the carrier to transport people.
The package includes: one cargo carrier frame, one ActiveLink™ shank assembly, one mounting tube, two driver-side support brackets, two passenger-side support brackets, four M10 eye bolts, six M10 lock nuts, and two M10 x 70mm hex bolts. The ActiveLink™ shank assembly is sold separately and is available as a 2" model (#18402) or 1-1/4" model (#18401).
The CURT 18415 cargo carrier works with both 2" and 1-1/4" receiver hitches, depending on which ActiveLink™ shank you use. The 2" shank (#18402) provides 500 lbs capacity, while the 1-1/4" shank (#18401) provides 350 lbs capacity. If using the 1-1/4" shank, a support strap is required.
1. Place the cargo carrier frame (#1) on a flat surface facing down. 2. Align the mounting holes in the support brackets (#4 and #5) with the holes in the carrier frame. 3. Insert an M10 eye bolt (#6) through each support bracket and the carrier frame. 4. Secure each eye bolt with an M10 lock nut (#7). 5. Align the mounting holes in the support brackets with the mounting tube (#3). 6. Insert an M10 hex bolt (#8) through each support bracket and the mounting tube. 7. Secure each hex bolt with an M10 lock nut (#7). 8. Tighten all M10 hardware to 12 ft-lbs. Do not overtighten.
1. Insert the ActiveLink™ shank into the receiver of your vehicle. 2. Tighten the anti-rattle bolt to 50 ft-lbs for operational use. 3. Slide the shank of the carrier assembly into the channel of the ActiveLink™ shank, seating the cutout of the mounting tube over the button head bolt. 4. Align the mounting tube pin hole with the pin hole on the shank and insert the pin to secure the mounting tube to the shank. 5. Hand tighten the crank-knob on the passenger side of the ActiveLink™ shank.
Flip the cargo carrier over and line up the tube sleeve with the pin hole on the ActiveLink™ shank. Insert the pin to secure the cargo carrier in the stored position.
Distribute the weight evenly on the platform when hauling a load. Do not carry loads taller, wider or deeper than the cargo carrier. Never use the carrier as a step or platform. Always use caution when in reverse to help avoid personal injury. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity or the maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs (with 2" receiver) or 350 lbs (with 1-1/4" receiver).
