A CURT RV hitch is a trailer hitch designed to mount on a recreational vehicle to tow along a few toys, add extra cargo space or to allow a vehicle to be flat-towed behind the RV. These hitches are manufactured using CURT's quality processes of robotic welding, thorough cleaning and precise finishing. Both our RV trailer hitches and RV bumper hitches are coated with a liquid A-coat and high-gloss black powder coat finish to protect against scratches, rust and UV damage, and both offer a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or other towing accessories. CURT RV hitches are designed to fit a variety of RV styles. With two types to choose from -- an adjustable 3-piece frame-mounted style or a bumper-mounted style -- these hitches mount easily onto the frame using the included hardware. This class 3 RV hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. It can also be used with a weight distribution hitch for a WD rating of 6,000 lbs. and WDTW of 600 lbs. It is able to fit a frame up to 51" wide and has a built-in drop of 2", making it particularly useful for higher RVs. It is excellent for towing a cargo carrier behind your RV, increasing your overall cargo space, or an average-size trailer, such as a utility trailer, boat trailer or recreational vehicle hauler for ATVs, personal watercraft or dirt bikes. This RV trailer hitch is also compatible with a tow dolly or tow bar for dinghy towing a small vehicle (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). When used as a weight carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight. However, you must not exceed your vehicle's bumper gross towing capacity.
When used as a weight distribution hitch, the gross load capacity is 6,000 lbs trailer weight and 600 lbs tongue weight. You must not exceed your vehicle's bumper gross towing capacity.
The kit includes: four 5/8-11 UNC hex head cap screws (HHCS) 1-1/2" long (part 10-10038); four 0.250 x 1.50 x 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP1); four 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (20-00062); four 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts 1-1/2" long (10-10287); one 1/2" fishwire (1_2 FISHWIRE); four 5/8" flat washers (30-00131); and four 5/8-11 UNC serrated flange nuts (20-00105).
You will need a 9/16" drill bit and an 11/16" drill bit for drilling into the vehicle frame. A torque wrench is required to tighten fasteners to the specified values (110 lb-ft for 1/2" hardware and 210 lb-ft for 5/8" hardware). Clamps are needed to hold the hitch in position during drilling. You may also need a wrench or socket set to install bolts and nuts.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 9/16" diameter holes into the vehicle frame on each side (four holes total) for the carriage bolts, and four 11/16" diameter holes through the walls of the hitch's cross tube for the hex bolts.
1) Slide side plate brackets onto the main body tube. 2) Position and clamp side brackets to the bottom of the vehicle frame, ensuring the receiver tube is centered and there is adequate coupler clearance. 3) Using the side bracket as a template, drill two 9/16" holes into the frame on each side. 4) Install 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers through the drilled holes, then loosely install 1/2" flange nuts and remove clamps. 5) Center the main body on the vehicle and clamp at both ends. Drill four 11/16" holes through the cross tube walls using the side plate bracket holes as templates. Install 5/8" hex bolts and flat washers, then place flange nuts on the bolts from inside the tube and remove clamps. 6) Optionally trim the main body tube flush with the side plate bracket and coat bare metal with paint. 7) Torque 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft and 5/8" hardware to 210 lb-ft.
If access holes are not present in the frame, the bolts and spacers may need to be fishwired into the frame. Alternatively, the bumper may need to be loosened to allow bolt and spacer installation.
Yes, the main body tube may be trimmed flush with the outside of the side plate bracket. If you trim it, you must coat the bare metal with paint to prevent corrosion.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
All 5/8" hardware (hex bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 210 lb-ft.

The 13701 is a general application hitch. You must verify that your vehicle frame can structurally support the hitch and that it does not exceed your vehicle's bumper gross towing capacity. Consult the manufacturer or a fitment database for your specific vehicle model.
You need a 9/16" drill bit for the frame holes and an 11/16" drill bit for the hitch cross tube holes.
