A CURT RV hitch is a trailer hitch designed to mount on a recreational vehicle to tow along a few toys, add extra cargo space or to allow a vehicle to be flat-towed behind the RV. These hitches are manufactured using CURT's quality processes of robotic welding, thorough cleaning and precise finishing. Both our RV trailer hitches and RV bumper hitches are coated with a liquid A-coat and high-gloss black powder coat finish to protect against scratches, rust and UV damage, and both offer a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or other towing accessories. CURT RV hitches are designed to fit a variety of RV styles. With two types to choose from -- an adjustable 3-piece frame-mounted style or a bumper-mounted style -- these hitches mount easily onto the frame using the included hardware. This class 3 RV hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. It can also be used with a weight distribution hitch for a WD rating of 6,000 lbs. and WDTW of 600 lbs. It is able to fit a frame up to 51" wide. It is excellent for towing a cargo carrier behind your RV, increasing your overall cargo space, or an average-size trailer, such as a utility trailer, boat trailer or recreational vehicle hauler for ATVs, personal watercraft or dirt bikes. This RV trailer hitch is also compatible with a tow dolly or tow bar for dinghy towing a small vehicle (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). The Curt 13702 is a general application product. It is the installer's responsibility to select a structurally safe location for attachment on the vehicle frame. Fitment depends on your specific vehicle's frame structure and bumper configuration. Consult with the installer or Curt Manufacturing to confirm suitability for your vehicle before purchase.
The kit includes: four 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 carriage bolts (1-1/2" long), four 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 serrated flange nuts, four 5/8-11 UNC Grade 8 hex cap screws (1-1/2" long), four 5/8-11 UNC Grade 8 serrated flange nuts, four 5/8" flat washers, four 0.250 x 1.50 x 2.00" square hole spacers, and one 1/2" fishwire.
A 9/16" drill bit and an 11/16" drill bit are required for drilling frame and cross tube holes. A wrench or socket set for 1/2" and 5/8" fasteners is needed for assembly and torquing. Clamps are required to hold the hitch in position during drilling. A paint brush and corrosion-preventative paint are recommended if the cross tube is trimmed.
The estimated installation time is 30 minutes. This assumes a straightforward installation with good frame access. Additional time may be required if the bumper must be loosened or if bolts need to be fishwired through the frame.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 9/16" holes into the vehicle frame (one per side) for the carriage bolts, and four 11/16" holes through the cross tube walls (two per side) for the hex bolts. The side bracket serves as a template for drilling.
The bumper may need to be loosened to allow access for installing the carriage bolts and spacers through the frame. If access holes are not present in the bumper, the bolts and spacers may need to be fishwired into the frame. Check your vehicle's bumper configuration before starting installation.
1. Slide side plate brackets onto the main body tube. 2. Position and clamp side brackets to the bottom of the frame, centering the receiver tube and ensuring adequate coupler clearance. 3. Using the side bracket as a template, drill two 9/16" holes into the frame (one per side). 4. Install 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers through the drilled holes, then loosely install 1/2" flange nuts and remove clamps. 5. Center the main body on the vehicle and clamp at both ends. Drill four 11/16" holes through the cross tube walls using the side plate bracket holes as templates. Install 5/8" hex bolts and flat washers, then place flange nuts on the bolts from inside the main body tube and remove clamps. 6. Optionally trim the main body tube flush with the side plate bracket and coat with paint. 7. Torque 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft and 5/8" hardware to 210 lb-ft.
Slide the side plate brackets onto the main body tube, then position and clamp them to the bottom of the frame so that the receiver tube with ballmount is centered on the vehicle. Ensure adequate coupler clearance before drilling.
The 1/2" fishwire is used to route the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame if access holes are not present in the bumper or frame. This allows installation without complete bumper removal.
The four 0.250 x 1.50 x 2.00" square hole spacers are installed with the 1/2" carriage bolts through the drilled frame holes. They provide spacing between the side bracket and the vehicle frame.
The main body tube may be trimmed flush with the outside of the side plate bracket, but this is optional. If trimmed, the bare metal must be coated with paint to prevent corrosion. The cross tube must remain flush or extended through the side bracket.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
All 5/8" hardware (hex bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 210 lb-ft.
A 9/16" drill bit is required to drill holes into the vehicle frame for the carriage bolts (two holes, one per side). An 11/16" drill bit is required to drill holes through the cross tube walls (four holes, two per side).

Do not exceed your vehicle bumper's gross towing capacity. The hitch capacity (5,000 lbs trailer / 500 lbs tongue for weight-carrying, or 6,000 lbs trailer / 600 lbs tongue for weight-distribution) must not exceed what your vehicle is rated to tow.
Periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Retorque fasteners as needed to maintain 110 lb-ft for 1/2" hardware and 210 lb-ft for 5/8" hardware.
