You must drill one 3/32" hole to mount the ground screw on clean, exposed metal near the RV harness ends (step 4), and two additional 3/32" holes on the front frame rail to mount the 4-flat bracket (step 14). Both holes are 3/32" diameter. One hole is drilled on clean metal near the RV harness ends for the #8 self-tapping ground screw (step 4). Two holes are drilled on the front frame rail using the 4-flat bracket as a template for bracket mounting (step 14).
After removing the taillights and separating the factory connectors, route the RV harness with connectors containing yellow wires up behind the bumper fascia and between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the RV connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock into place. Pull on the connectors to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger side with the T-connector ends containing green wires.
Use a fish tape to route the harness: (1) Starting at the left side of the rear driver's side wheel well, route the fish tape up and over to the right side, secure the 4-flat connector to it, and pull through the wheel well cover. (2) From the front of the wheel well, route to brake line brackets and secure with cable ties. (3) Continue routing towards the front along brake lines, securing with cable ties until reaching the driver's side front wheel well. (4) Secure the harness to the vehicle frame with two cable tie adhesive pads before routing to the front wheel well. (5) Repeat the fish tape process to route the 4-flat through the driver's front wheel well. You may need to remove one or more Torx T15 screws from the wheel well cover to facilitate routing.
Mount the 4-flat bracket on the front frame rail that goes across the front of the vehicle. Use the bracket as a template to mark two holes, drill two 3/32" holes, and attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 self-tapping screws provided in the kit.
The 4-flat harness color code is: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal, drill a 3/32" hole, and attach the ring terminal on the white wire using one of the #8 self-tapping ground screws provided.
Avoid routing the harness near moving parts, fuel lines, or areas where wires could be cut, pinched, or burned. The manual cautions: "Make sure to avoid areas that contain moving parts or could cut, pinch or burn the wires when routing the 4-flat harness towards the front of the vehicle. Also avoid routing harness near the fuel lines as it may cause the fuel to ignite." Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life. Also avoid drilling through the vehicle body or exposed surfaces.
With the 4-flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Buick Enclave or GMC Acadia. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp. Verify that tail lights, turn signals, and brake signals operate correctly.
Store the 4-flat extension in the vehicle's glove box when not in use.
You must remove at least one Torx T15 screw from the driver's rear wheel well cover to route the fish tape through (step 9). When routing the 4-flat to the driver's front wheel well, it may be possible to remove one or more additional Torx T15 screws to facilitate routing (step 13). The manual does not specify whether these screws are reused or replaced.
Use the 20 cable ties (15" each) provided to secure the harness to brake line brackets and other mounting points as you route it through the vehicle. Use the two adhesive cable tie pads to secure the 4-flat harness to the vehicle frame before routing to the front wheel well (step 12). At the rear of the vehicle, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using cable ties (step 16).
Follow this sequence: (1) Remove taillight assemblies and disconnect factory connectors. (2) Connect RV harness to driver's side factory connectors. (3) Drill and install ground screw on clean metal. (4) Route passenger-side harness through frame rail using fish tape and connect to factory connectors. (5) Remove wheel well cover screws and route 4-flat connector through wheel wells using fish tape. (6) Secure harness to brake line brackets with cable ties. (7) Mount 4-flat bracket on front frame rail. (8) Test all functions. (9) Reinstall taillights and secure loose wires.
