Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery in the engine compartment on the passenger side and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol). This can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks.
Open the tailgate and use an 8mm socket to remove the two bolts securing each taillight in place. Carefully remove the taillight straight back from the vehicle. Locate the taillight wiring connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight aside in a safe place and repeat on the other side.
Fishwire is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. Insert the fishwire through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fishwire and pull back up. If the fishwire or harness gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Fishwire can be made from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string.
Drop a fishwire down inside the cavity where the taillight was removed. From under the vehicle, attach the yellow wire to the fishwire and pull up into the taillight opening. Attach the custom wiring harness to the taillight, then re-attach the factory harness to the taillight and the T-connection in the custom wiring harness.
Route the green wire over to the passenger side, using zip ties as needed along the rear bumper. Repeat the same process on the passenger side as you did with the yellow wire on the driver side.
You may use an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame as a grounding point. If no suitable existing fastener is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal or the provided ground screw.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and/or personal injury.
Route the 4-flat harness above the frame and below the bed of the truck along the driver-side frame rail to the front. Once the harness is just behind the driver-side front wheel, route it to the rear of the driver-side wheel well, then over to the driver-side rear inner wheel well.
From the engine compartment on the driver side next to the hood hinge, run a fishwire down between the inner fender and the outer fender. Pull the wheel well panel back and locate the end of the fishwire. Attach the 4-flat to the fishwire and pull it to the top of the engine compartment. Route the 4-flat along the driver-side inner fender, zip tie in place as needed, and run it under the air intake to the front of the truck.
