Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery and disconnect the negative battery terminal. The taillight connectors are located on the inside frame rail at the rear of the passenger side of the vehicle. The manual provides a wiring location guide showing five reference points: T1 (behind driver side taillight housing), T2 (behind passenger side taillight housing), T3 (behind driver side rear bumper), T4 (behind center of rear bumper fascia), and T5 (behind passenger side rear bumper). The 58987 installation begins at the passenger-side taillight connectors.
Starting at the rear of the passenger side, locate the taillight vehicle connectors (they will be similar to those on the custom wiring product). Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place, then loosely zip tie in place.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire. You must locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing fastener is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. The area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint—use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it.

Route the 4-flat along and above the frame rail on the passenger side up to the rear of the passenger-side front tire (Step 4). Then use a fishwire to route it down along the inner fender and outer fender. From under the vehicle, pull back the inside of the wheel well lining until you see the fishwire. Feed the 4-flat wire up into the engine compartment using the fishwire (Step 5). Finally, route the 4-flat along the passenger-side inner fender to the front of the truck (Step 6).
Fishwire is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. It can be made from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope, or string. Insert the fishwire through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fishwire and pull back up. If the fishwire or harness gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. The fishwire must be long enough to stick out on both sides.
Secure any excess wire so that it is not drooping or dangling, but not so tight that it causes unnecessary strain to the wire, which could lead to breakage over time. After removing slack from the 4-flat wire, tighten any zip ties and add as needed. Use a zip tie to fasten any excess wire to a solid spot along the driver-side inner fender. Loosely zip tie the harness in place at the taillight connectors initially (Step 2), then tighten after routing is complete.
Once the custom wiring harness is installed, verify that it is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. You can also use a test light to check for proper function.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the harness by attaching the 4-flat to a vehicle with functioning trailer lights to verify proper operation.
