Enjoy automatic trailer coupling with the unique auto-locking mechanism of this SecureLatch pintle hook. Just back up to the trailer tongue -- the integrated striker plate helps stop and center the lunette ring. Drop the ring onto the hook, and the SecureLatch mechanism automatically engages the primary lock. Just insert the secondary safety pin and you're ready to tow. This unique pintle hook also has a cupped design to hold the lunette eyelet more tightly and deter chucking noises. This pintle hook is rated for 30,000 pounds gross trailer weight and is constructed from austempered cast iron for superior strength and wear resistance. It fits 2-1/2-inch or 3-inch lunette rings. NOTE: SecureLatch slotted pintle mount required for installation (pintle mount and bolts sold separately).

The CURT 48505 package includes one pintle hook. You will need to purchase separately: a pintle mount, a 5/8" hitch pin or lock, four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, and nuts.
The CURT 48505 requires a pintle mount (sold separately) that inserts into a receiver hitch. The manual does not specify receiver hitch size compatibility. Contact CURT at 877-287-8634 or check the pintle mount product documentation to confirm compatibility with your vehicle's receiver hitch.
The CURT 48505 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 30,000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, and you must use the lowest rated capacity among all towing components. For off-road applications, reduce this capacity by 25% (to 22,500 lbs.).
Maintain adequate vertical down (tongue) load of generally 10% of the trailer weight to have control of the trailer, but do not exceed the specified rated capacities of the pintle hook or vehicle.
You will need: a torque wrench, a ratchet, a 3/4" socket, and a 3/4" wrench.
All 1/2" bolts securing the pintle hook to the pintle mount must be tightened to 90 ft-lbs.
1. Insert the pintle mount shank into the receiver hitch and secure with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included). 2. Begin securing the pintle hook to the pintle mount using four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, and nuts (not included). Do not fully tighten at this stage. 3. Adjust the pintle hook to the required towing height. 4. Tighten all bolts to 90 ft-lbs.
1. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 2. Back the vehicle up until the lunette eye taps the pintle's strike plate. 3. Lower the lunette eye into place; the primary latching mechanism will engage automatically. 4. Secure with the provided safety pin. 5. Cross the safety chains and hook them to the vehicle. Link the safety chains onto the chain hangers to prevent them from dragging on the ground during travel.
1. Unhook the safety chains from the hangers and vehicle. 2. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 3. Flip the locking plate forward. 4. Raise the lunette eye until it clears the pintle hook. 5. Return the safety pin to locked position.
Yes. Safety chains must be kept in place and in working order at all times. Never operate the product without safety chains attached to the vehicle. Cross the safety chains and link them onto the chain hangers to prevent them from dragging on the ground during travel. Do not use the pintle hook's hooks as a connection point for safety chains; they are for chain support only.
Check the hardware torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that. Retighten to 90 ft-lbs. if needed.
Before each use, inspect the unit for proper operation and for worn, damaged, or missing parts. Replace parts as required or when wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface. Check hardware torque after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles thereafter, retightening to 90 ft-lbs. as needed.
No. Do not modify this pintle in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair function and safety, could affect the life of the product, and will void the warranty.
The CURT 48505 is designed for on-road towing within the stated capacities. For off-road applications, you must reduce the capacity by 25%. The standard GTW capacity is 30,000 lbs.; for off-road use, reduce this to 22,500 lbs. Consult your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations for off-road towing suitability.
Yes. The pintle mount is sold separately and must be inserted into your vehicle's receiver hitch. You will also need a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included).
You need four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, and nuts (not included), plus a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included) to secure the pintle mount to the receiver hitch.
Tighten all 1/2" bolts to 90 ft-lbs. Recheck torque after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles thereafter.
The CURT 48505 has a 30,000 lbs. GTW capacity, but you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity or the lowest rated capacity of all towing components. For off-road use, reduce capacity by 25%.
Yes. Safety chains must always be in place and in working order. Never operate without safety chains attached to the vehicle. Cross the chains and link them to the chain hangers.
Inspect before each use for proper operation and worn, damaged, or missing parts. Replace parts when wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface. Check bolt torque after the first 200 miles and every 400 miles thereafter.
