The CURT SecureLatch pintle ball hitch makes coupling to your trailer virtually automatic with its innovative auto-locking technology. The auto-lock automatically latches the lunette ring onto the hook without any manual coupling required. Strike the integrated back plate, drop the lunette ring down onto the hook and you're ready to tow -- just insert the secondary safety pin! This SecureLatch ball and pintle hook combination also has a unique, cupped design to hold the lunette ring more tightly, greatly reducing chucking noises common in pintle towing. This pintle hitch is rated for 14,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 10,000 pounds ball capacity. It fits any industry-standard 2-inch receiver. The ball and hook combo can be coupled to a 2-inch standard coupler or 2-1/2-inch or 3-inch diameter lunette rings.

The CURT 48407 is a receiver mount pintle hitch designed to tow trailers equipped with lunette eye couplers. It mounts into a vehicle's receiver hitch and secures the trailer's lunette eye with a primary latching mechanism and safety pin. The pintle is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) of 14,000 lbs.
The CURT 48407 mounts into a receiver hitch on your vehicle. You must have a compatible receiver hitch installed. The manual does not specify receiver size (2-inch vs. 2.5-inch) or vehicle-specific fitment. Contact CURT at 877-287-8634 or check the product page to confirm compatibility with your vehicle's receiver hitch.
The CURT 48407 pintle hitch is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) of 14,000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. If your vehicle's capacity is lower than 14,000 lbs., use the vehicle's limit. For off-road towing, reduce the 14,000 lbs. capacity by 25% (to 10,500 lbs.).
Yes. The CURT 48407 pintle hitch is rated for 14,000 lbs. GTW when used as a pintle. If a hitch ball is mounted on the same unit, the ball weight capacity is 10,000 lbs. GTW. Use the appropriate capacity for your coupling type and never exceed the lower rating.
No tools are required for installation. The pintle hitch mounts into your receiver hitch using a 5/8" hitch pin or lock, which is not included with the product and must be purchased separately.
The CURT 48407 includes one receiver mount pintle hitch and a safety pin. A 5/8" hitch pin or lock is not included and must be purchased separately to secure the pintle shank into the receiver hitch.
Insert the pintle shank into the receiver hitch and secure it with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included). That is the only installation step required. No drilling, welding, or modifications are needed.
1. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 2. Back the vehicle up until the trailer's lunette eye taps the pintle's strike plate. 3. Lower the lunette eye into place; the primary latching mechanism will engage automatically. 4. Secure with the provided safety pin. 5. Cross the safety chains and hook them to the vehicle, linking them onto the chain hangers to prevent dragging. Do not use hooks as a connection point for safety chains; they are for chain support only.
1. Unhook the safety chains from the hangers and vehicle. 2. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 3. Flip the locking plate forward until it touches the trailer ball. 4. Raise the lunette eye until it clears the trailer ball. 5. Return the safety pin to the locked position.
Safety chains are a critical safety feature. You must keep safety chains in place and in working order at all times. Never operate the pintle hitch without safety chains attached to the vehicle. Cross the chains and link them onto the chain hangers to prevent them from dragging on the ground during travel. Hooks on the pintle are for chain support only, not as a connection point.
Maintain adequate vertical down (tongue) load to have control of the trailer, generally 10% of the gross trailer weight. However, do not exceed the specified rated capacities of the pintle hitch (14,000 lbs. GTW) or your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity.
The CURT 48407 is designed for on-road towing within the stated capacities. If you use it for off-road applications, you must reduce the rated capacity by 25%. This means the maximum GTW for off-road use is 10,500 lbs. (14,000 lbs. minus 25%), not the standard 14,000 lbs.
The hitch ball torque specification is 450 ft-lbs. This applies unless otherwise noted in the manual.
Before each use, inspect the unit for proper operation and check for worn, damaged, or missing parts. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately. Never operate the pintle hitch with a damaged part. Replace parts when the unit's wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface.
Check the hardware torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that. This ensures all fasteners remain secure during use.
Replace parts as required when they are damaged or worn. Specifically, replace parts when the unit's wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface. Check for damaged parts before each use and never operate the pintle hitch with a damaged part.
No. Do not modify the pintle in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety, could affect the life of the product, and will void the warranty.
No. The CURT 48407 mounts directly into your existing receiver hitch using a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included). No drilling, welding, or vehicle modifications are required.
The CURT 48407 is rated for 14,000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW) as a pintle. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. For off-road use, reduce capacity by 25% to 10,500 lbs.
You must purchase a 5/8" hitch pin or lock separately; it is not included. No other tools or parts are required for installation.
