Enjoy automatic trailer coupling with the unique auto-locking mechanism of this SecureLatch pintle hitch. Just back up to the trailer tongue -- the integrated striker plate helps stop and center the lunette ring. Drop the ring onto the ball and hook, and the SecureLatch mechanism automatically engages the primary lock. Just insert the secondary safety pin and you're ready to tow. This unique pintle ball hitch also has a cupped design to hold the lunette eyelet more tightly and deter chucking noises. This ball and pintle combo is rated for 20,000 pounds gross trailer weight, 10,000 pounds ball capacity and is constructed from austempered cast iron for superior strength and wear resistance. It has a standard 2-inch ball and fits 2-1/2-inch or 3-inch lunette rings. NOTE: SecureLatch slotted pintle mount required for installation (pintle mount and bolts sold separately).

The CURT 48411 is a pintle hitch designed for towing trailers with lunette eyes. It features a primary latching mechanism that engages automatically when the lunette eye is lowered into place. The pintle is secured to a pintle mount (sold separately) that inserts into a vehicle's receiver hitch.
Yes. The pintle hitch requires a pintle mount (sold separately) to be installed in your vehicle's receiver hitch. The pintle mount shank is inserted into the receiver hitch and secured with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included).
The pintle hitch has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 20,000 lbs. For off-road towing applications, reduce this capacity by 25% (to 15,000 lbs.). Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, whichever is lower.
The ball weight capacity is 10,000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW). This applies if the pintle is used with a ball mount instead of a lunette eye connection.
You will need: a torque wrench, ratchet, 3/4" socket, and 3/4" wrench. These are required to properly secure the pintle to the mount and achieve the correct torque specifications.
The pintle hitch itself is included. You must purchase separately: the pintle mount, a 5/8" hitch pin or lock, and four 1/2" grade-8 bolts with washers and nuts to secure the pintle to the mount.
1. Insert the pintle mount shank into the receiver hitch and secure with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock. 2. Begin securing the pintle hook to the pintle mount using four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers and nuts (not included). Do not fully tighten at this stage. 3. Adjust the pintle hook to the required towing height. 4. Tighten all bolts to 90 ft-lbs.
All four 1/2" bolts must be tightened to 90 ft-lbs. Do not fully tighten the bolts until after you have adjusted the pintle hook to the required towing height.
1. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 2. Back the vehicle up until the lunette eye taps the pintle's strike plate. 3. Lower the lunette eye into place; the primary latching mechanism will engage automatically. 4. Secure with the provided safety pin. 5. Cross the safety chains and hook them to the vehicle, linking them onto the chain hangers to prevent dragging.
1. Unhook the safety chains from the hangers and vehicle. 2. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 3. Flip the locking plate forward until it touches the trailer ball. 4. Raise the lunette eye until it clears the trailer ball. 5. Return the safety pin to locked position.
Maintain adequate vertical down (tongue) load to have control of the trailer, generally 10% of the gross trailer weight. However, do not exceed the specified rated capacities of the pintle or your vehicle.
The CURT 48411 is designed for on-road towing within the stated capacities. For off-road applications, you must reduce the rated capacities by 25%. The pintle's 20,000 lbs. GTW capacity would be reduced to 15,000 lbs. for off-road use.
Yes. Safety chains must be kept in place and in working order at all times. Never operate the pintle hitch without safety chains attached to the vehicle. Cross the safety chains and link them onto the chain hangers to prevent them from dragging on the ground during travel.
No. The hooks are to be used only as chain support, not as connection points for safety chains. Safety chains must be hooked to the vehicle and linked onto the chain hangers.
Inspect the unit for proper operation and worn, damaged or missing parts before each use. Replace parts as required or when wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface. Check the hardware torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that.
Check the hardware torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that. All four 1/2" bolts should remain at 90 ft-lbs.
No. Do not modify the pintle in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety, could affect the life of the product, and will void the warranty.
