It features a standard 2-5/16-inch diameter trailer ball to fit any 2-5/16-inch trailer coupler. No. The Curt 45922 can only be used with the channel-mount system from the product manufacturer. Using any other channel-mount system could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty.
The Curt 45922 has a 2 5/16" ball. You will need a trailer coupler designed to fit a 2 5/16" ball. Consult your trailer's documentation or coupler manufacturer to confirm compatibility.
The Curt 45922 is rated for a gross trailer weight of 20,000 lbs. and a tongue weight of 2,000 lbs. However, you must not exceed your vehicle's towing capacity or the trailer hitch capacity, whichever is less. Check your vehicle owner's manual to determine your vehicle's tow rating and never exceed the lowest rated component in your towing system.
The manual does not specify which parts are included with the 45922. You will need a hitch pin and clip to secure the adjustable channel-mount shank to your vehicle's trailer hitch, and a safety pin to secure the pintle latch. The channel-mount system itself must be installed in your vehicle's trailer hitch receiver. The pintle ball must be torqued to 260 ft. lbs. before towing. This torque must be applied and verified before you tow any trailer.
1. Install the adjustable channel-mount shank into your vehicle's trailer hitch and secure it with a hitch pin and clip. Always secure the hitch pin with a clip unless a locking device is being used. 2. Raise or lower the pintle to the desired height. 3. Insert the channel-mount system pins through the holes that line up with the holes in the channel-mount and secure the pins with clips. Use only original factory channel-mount pins for replacements. 4. After the pintle is set to the correct height and secured, tighten the anti-rattle set screw tightly into the channel-mount to eliminate noise. The set screw is not required for safety, only to reduce rattle.
Raise or lower the pintle to your desired height by adjusting the channel-mount shank. Once you have set the pintle to the correct height, insert the channel-mount system pins through the holes that line up with the holes in the channel-mount and secure them with clips.
The anti-rattle set screw is a fastener that tightens into the channel-mount to eliminate noise and rattle between the channel-mount shank and the pintle. It is not required for safety, only to reduce possible rattle. After the pintle is set to the correct height and secured with pins and clips, tighten the anti-rattle set screw tightly.
You must use original factory channel-mount pins. The pins are specifically engineered for the channel-mount system. If replacement pins are needed, they must be replaced with original factory channel-mount pins only.
To open the pintle latch: 1. Remove the safety pin. 2. Pull up on the lock while lifting the latch. 3. Replace the safety pin to retain the open latch position. Then position the coupler over the trailer ball and lock it into place following the coupler manufacturer's instructions.
Never hook up trailer safety chains to the channel-mount system. The manual does not specify where safety chains should be attached; consult your vehicle owner's manual or the trailer manufacturer for proper safety chain attachment points.
Before towing, you must: 1. Ensure the pintle ball is torqued to 260 ft. lbs. 2. Check that all pins are secured into place with clips. 3. Verify that safety chains operate freely around the channel-mount system and do not become entangled in it. 4. Confirm that you are not exceeding your vehicle's towing capacity or the trailer hitch capacity, whichever is less.
You must not exceed the lowest rated component in your entire towing system. The Curt 45922 is rated for 20,000 lbs. gross trailer weight and 2,000 lbs. tongue weight, but you must also check your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity in your vehicle owner's manual. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, and never exceed the trailer hitch capacity. Always use the lowest rated component as your limit.
