Enjoy automatic trailer coupling with the unique auto-locking mechanism of this SecureLatch pintle hitch. Just back up to the trailer tongue -- the integrated striker plate helps stop and center the lunette ring. Drop the ring onto the ball and hook, and the SecureLatch mechanism automatically engages the primary lock. Just insert the secondary safety pin and you're ready to tow. This unique pintle ball hitch also has a cupped design to hold the lunette eyelet more tightly and deter chucking noises. This ball and pintle combo is rated for 20,000 pounds gross trailer weight, 14,000 pounds ball capacity and is constructed from austempered cast iron for superior strength and wear resistance. It has a standard 2-5/16-inch ball and fits 2-1/2-inch or 3-inch lunette rings. NOTE: SecureLatch slotted pintle mount required for installation (pintle mount and bolts sold separately).

The CURT 48410 is a pintle hitch designed to tow trailers equipped with lunette eye couplers. It connects to a pintle mount (sold separately) and secures trailers via a primary latching mechanism that engages automatically when the lunette eye is lowered into place. The hitch is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight of 20,000 lbs.
Yes. The pintle mount is sold separately and is required for installation. The pintle hitch shank inserts into the receiver hitch on the pintle mount, and is secured with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included).
The CURT 48410 pintle hitch has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 20,000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, and you must not exceed the lowest rated towing component in your system. For off-road applications, reduce this capacity by 25% (to 15,000 lbs.).
The CURT 48410 package includes only the pintle hitch itself. You must separately obtain: a pintle mount (sold separately), a 5/8" hitch pin or lock, four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, nuts, and safety chains. The pintle hitch does not include these components.
You will need: a torque wrench, a ratchet, a 3/4" socket, and a 3/4" wrench. These tools are essential for properly securing the pintle hitch to the pintle mount and achieving the correct torque specifications.
All four 1/2" grade-8 bolts securing the pintle hitch to the pintle mount must be tightened to 90 ft-lbs. Do not fully tighten the bolts until after you have adjusted the pintle hook to the required towing height.
1. Insert the pintle mount shank into the receiver hitch and secure with a 5/8" hitch pin or lock (not included). 2. Begin securing the pintle hitch to the pintle mount using four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, and nuts (not included), but do not fully tighten them. 3. Adjust the pintle hitch to the required towing height. 4. Tighten all four bolts to 90 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
1. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 2. Back the vehicle up until the trailer's lunette eye taps the pintle's strike plate. 3. Lower the lunette eye into place; the primary latching mechanism will engage automatically. 4. Secure with the provided safety pin. 5. Cross the safety chains and hook them to the vehicle, linking them onto the chain hangers to prevent dragging.
1. Unhook the safety chains from the hangers and vehicle. 2. Unlock the pintle by removing the safety pin. 3. Flip the locking plate forward until it touches the trailer ball. 4. Raise the lunette eye until it clears the trailer ball. 5. Return the safety pin to the locked position.
Maintain adequate vertical down (tongue) load to have control of the trailer, generally 10% of the gross trailer weight. However, do not exceed the specified rated capacities of the hitch or vehicle. Proper tongue load is essential for safe towing.
Yes. Safety chains must be kept in place and in working order at all times. Never operate the pintle hitch without safety chains attached to the vehicle. Cross the chains and link them onto the chain hangers to prevent them from dragging on the ground during travel. Hooks are not to be used as a connection point for safety chains; they are for chain support only.
The CURT 48410 is designed for on-road towing within the stated capacities. For off-road applications, you must reduce the maximum capacity by 25%. The standard pintle weight capacity is 20,000 lbs; for off-road use, reduce this to 15,000 lbs. Off-road towing requires additional caution and lower load limits.
Before each use, inspect the unit for proper operation and worn, damaged, or missing parts. Replace parts immediately if wear exceeds 1/8" from the original surface or if any part is damaged. Check all hardware torque specifications after the first 200 miles of towing, then every 400 miles thereafter using a torque wrench to ensure bolts remain at 90 ft-lbs.
No. Do not modify the pintle in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and safety of the product, could affect the life of the product, and will void the warranty.
The CURT 48410 is a pintle hitch that requires a separate pintle mount (sold separately). Compatibility depends on your vehicle's receiver hitch and the pintle mount you select. Consult the pintle mount documentation and your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity to confirm fitment.
You must purchase separately: a pintle mount, a 5/8" hitch pin or lock, four 1/2" grade-8 bolts, washers, nuts, and safety chains. The pintle hitch itself does not include these components.
Tighten all four 1/2" bolts to 90 ft-lbs. Retorque after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles thereafter.
No. Begin securing the four 1/2" bolts but do not fully tighten them. Adjust the pintle hitch to the required towing height first, then tighten all bolts to 90 ft-lbs.
Yes. Safety chains must always be attached and in working order. Never operate the pintle hitch without safety chains. Cross them and link them onto chain hangers to prevent dragging.
