The CURT 16085 Spyder gooseneck hitch is a gooseneck-style trailer hitch designed for heavy-duty towing. It has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 25,000 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 6,250 lbs. The hitch assembly includes a spyder gooseneck, U-bolts, springs, washers, nylock nuts, rail pins and rail pin clips. Base rails are sold separately.
Yes. The CURT 16085 Spyder gooseneck hitch requires base rails, which are sold separately. The hitch assembly is placed into the base rails during installation, and the rail pins are inserted through the rails and gooseneck to secure it.
You will need a torque wrench, ratchet, and socket set. The manual rates the installation as 'Easy' difficulty.
The CURT 16085 includes: 1 spyder gooseneck, 2 U-bolts (M16 x 2, 100), 4 U-bolt springs, 8 flat washers (M16), 4 nylock nuts (M16), 4 rail pins, and 4 rail pin clips. Base rails are not included and must be purchased separately.
Assemble the U-bolts in this order: U-bolt (#2), U-bolt spring (#3), flat washer (#4), flat washer (#4), nylock nut (#5). Thread the nylock nut onto the U-bolt just so the first threads start to protrude from the other side of the nut. Do not fully tighten at this stage.
Place the assembled Spyder gooseneck hitch into the base rails. Insert the four provided rail pins through the rails and gooseneck. Secure each rail pin with a rail pin clip.

Wax the hitch after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer over the finish. Use only mild automotive detergent to clean it. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or polishes or waxes containing abrasives, as these will damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. This is especially important if a transfer tank is installed.
