Your bicycle is more than just a frame, tires, handlebars and pedals. You live for what might be around that next turn, that burn in your legs as you climb a rocky trail and that freefall feeling you get as you descend a long hill. Your bike is not just a hobby; it is a gateway to the outdoors and your faithful companion in the wild. It was with this idea in mind that the CURT tray-style bike rack was built. From the BMX track to the paved trail and everything in between, bicycling is all about the ride. The CURT tray-style bike rack promotes your biking experience unlike any other because of its unique, three-point support system. It is made to be easier to use and keep bikes more secure, holding them at three points of contact. Instead of hanging the bike by its crossbar, the loop-like tray-style cradles hole the bike's wheels, keeping it secure on each end. The third point is an adjustable, ratcheting arm that moves up and down and locks over the crossbar, keeping the entire bike firmly held in place. Both the tray-style cradles and the vertical ratcheting arm are highly adjustable and can fit virtually any size bike, from a giant adult mountain bike to a single-gear kids' bike. CURT tray-style bike racks are not your average ten-speed. In fact, they are packed with features to truly make it all about the ride. They feature a hitch-mounted design to work with your vehicle's trailer hitch, and they come with a tilt-away feature to allow the entire rack to tilt away from the vehicle. This makes it easy to open a hatchback door or trunk and access the rear cargo area. Tray-style bike racks also feature a foldable, adjustable frame and an anti-wobble shank. This model fits 1-1/4" or 2" receiver tubes and holds up to two bikes.

Yes. The 18085 is designed for both 1 1/4" and 2" receiver tubes. For 2" receivers, install the shank directly into the receiver opening. For 1 1/4" receivers, you must first remove the adapter on the shank, then install using the same process.
No. The manual explicitly states: "Do not install on a trailer, RV or other towed vehicle." The 18085 is designed only for installation on a vehicle's receiver hitch, not on towed equipment.
No. The manual states: "Never use bike rack with a hitch extender." Using an extender is not permitted and may void the warranty or cause safety issues.
The 18085 is designed for standard bikes only. The manual states: "This product is not intended for off-road use, tandems or recumbents." Do not use it to carry tandem bikes or recumbent bikes.
The kit includes: main body rack arms, hitch mounting shank, two support arms (items 3 and 4), short and long locking arms, three M6 pan head screws with lock washers, two spacers, one clip, anti-rattle bolt set (1/2" - 96mm), shank bolt set (1/2" - 76mm), metric wrench, M8 Allen wrench, M5 Allen wrench, and key set. Support straps are not included but are required for 1 1/4" receiver installations.
The following tools are provided in the kit: metric wrench, M8 Allen wrench, and M5 Allen wrench. No additional tools are mentioned as required in the manual. However, support straps are required for 1 1/4" receiver installations but are not included in the kit.
The manual does not mention removal of bumpers or other vehicle components. Installation involves sliding the shank into the receiver hitch tube opening and securing it with the anti-rattle bolt and clip. No vehicle modifications are described.
No. The manual does not mention disconnecting the battery. This is a mechanical hitch-mounted installation with no electrical connections.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Insert spacers into the hitch mounting shank, place main body rack arms into shank, and secure with security pins and shank bolt; (2) Remove outer arm pins and drop side arms flat, then re-insert pins to secure; (3) Slide support arms onto main body arms with tightening knob facing upward, tighten knobs, and insert pan head screws into arm ends; (4) Slide long locking arm onto middle arm (facing the shank), then short locking arm, press hooks down until you hear one to two clicks, and insert pan head screw into center post.
Slide the shank into your receiver hitch tube opening. Secure it with the anti-rattle bolt (1/2" - 96mm) threaded completely through the receiver tube, and the clip. The anti-rattle bolt must be tightened to 75 ft. lbs. If you have a 1 1/4" receiver, first remove the adapter on the shank before installation.
The anti-rattle bolt must be tightened to 75 ft. lbs. The bolt must be threaded completely through the vehicle's receiver tube. If not completely tightened, the bike rack can shake, rattle, rock and vibrate, which could potentially cause damage to the bikes.
The manual states that failure to use support straps on trailer hitches with 1 1/4" receiver tubes voids the trailer hitch and bike rack warranties. Support straps are required for 1 1/4" receiver installations. No other warranty details are provided in the manual.
Check the tightness of all bolts periodically. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended to ensure the rack remains secure during use.
You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The manual does not specify a separate capacity for the bike rack itself; you must follow your vehicle's limits.
Load the heaviest bike onto the rack set closest to the vehicle. Raise the long locking arm to get the bike cross beam underneath it. Once the bike is in place, lower the locking arm down onto the crossbar.
Remove the security pins from the base of the bike rack and replace them in the top hole of the base plate so the carrier does not tip too far down. Tilt the carrier down until it is supported by the security pins.
Option 1: Remove the outer arm pins and clips from the base's face plates, raise the side arms up, and replace the pins to secure them in the raised position. Option 2: Remove the middle arm pins and clips, lower the middle arms one to each side and replace the pins, then remove the security pins from the base and lift the rack up until it is parallel to your vehicle, and replace the security pins to hold it in place.
Yes, it fits both. For 2" receivers, install directly. For 1 1/4" receivers, remove the adapter on the shank first.
Metric wrench, M8 Allen wrench, and M5 Allen wrench are included. Support straps are required for 1 1/4" receivers but not included.
Tighten the anti-rattle bolt to 75 ft. lbs. It must be threaded completely through the receiver tube to prevent rattling and potential bike damage.
No. Never use with a hitch extender, and do not install on trailers, RVs, or other towed vehicles.
Standard bikes only. Not intended for off-road use, tandems, or recumbents.
Yes, support straps are required for 1 1/4" receiver installations. Failure to use them voids the warranty. They are not included in the kit.
