The CURT hitch-mounted tray-style bike rack promotes your biking experience unlike any other because of its unique, three-point support system. It is made to be easier to use and keep bikes more secure, holding them at three points of contact. Instead of hanging the bike by its crossbar, the loop-like tray-style cradles hole the bike's wheels, keeping it secure on each end. The third point is an adjustable, ratcheting arm that moves up and down and locks over the crossbar, keeping the entire bike firmly held in place. Both the tray-style cradles and the vertical ratcheting arm are highly adjustable and can fit virtually any size bike, from a giant adult mountain bike to a single-gear kids' bike. CURT tray-style bike racks are not your average ten-speed. In fact, they are packed with features to truly make it all about the ride. They feature a hitch-mounted design to work with your vehicle's trailer hitch, and they come with a tilt-away feature to allow the entire rack to tilt away from the vehicle. The Curt 18087 is designed to fit into a 2-inch receiver hitch tube opening. The shank slides into your vehicle's receiver hitch and is secured with the anti-rattle bolt and clip. Your vehicle must have a Class II or higher receiver hitch to accommodate this product.
The Curt 18087 is a tray-style bike rack designed for standard bicycles. The manual explicitly states it is not intended for off-road use, tandems, or recumbents. The main body holds up to 4 bikes, and an optional 2-bike extension is available, for a total capacity of 6 bikes.
The anti-rattle bolt (#11) must be tightened to 75 ft. lbs. The bolt must be threaded completely through the vehicle's receiver tube. If not completely tightened, the bike rack can shake, rattle, rock and vibrate, which could potentially cause damage to the bikes.
The Curt 18087 includes a metric wrench (#14), an Allen wrench M8 (#15), and two key sets (#16). These tools are used to assemble and install the rack. An external torque wrench is required to tighten the anti-rattle bolt to the specified 75 ft. lbs.
Assembly involves four main steps: (1) Insert spacers into the hitch mounting shank, place the main body rack into the shank, and secure with security pins and shank bolt; (2) Remove outer arm pins and clips, drop side arms flat, and re-insert pins to secure; (3) Slide support arms onto the main body rack arms with tightening knobs facing upward, tighten the knobs, and insert pan head screws into each arm end; (4) Slide long and short locking arms onto the middle arm facing the mounting shank, press hooks down onto bike frame until you hear one to two clicks from the ratchet system, and insert pan head screws into the center post.
Slide the shank into your vehicle's receiver hitch tube opening. Secure it with the anti-rattle bolt (#11) threaded completely through the receiver tube and tightened to 75 ft. lbs., and secure the clip (#10). The anti-rattle bolt must be fully tightened to prevent the rack from shaking, rattling, rocking or vibrating.
Assemble the extension following steps 2 through 4 from the main assembly section, using the extension rack arms (#2) instead of the main body arms. Once assembled, insert the shank of the extension rack into the open shank of the main body rack and secure using both extension bolt sets (#13).

Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The bike rack and loaded bikes add weight to your vehicle, so you must ensure the total load does not exceed the capacity specified by your vehicle's manufacturer.
Check tightness of all bolts periodically. This includes the anti-rattle bolt (which must remain at 75 ft. lbs.), the shank bolt, extension bolts, support arm knobs, and pan head screws. Regular inspection helps prevent the rack from loosening during use.
Load the heaviest bike onto the rack set closest to the vehicle. Raise the long lock arm (#7) to get the bike cross beam underneath it. Once the bike is in place, lower the locking arm down onto the crossbar. Press hooks down onto the bike frame until it makes contact, then press down firmly until you hear one to two additional clicks from the ratchet system.
Remove the security pins from the base of the bike rack and replace them in the top hole of the base plate. Tilt the carrier down until it is supported by the security pins. This allows you to access your vehicle's rear without fully removing the rack.
Two options are provided: Option 1 – Remove the outer arm pins and clips from the base's face plates, raise the side arms up, and replace the pins to secure them in the raised position. Option 2 – Remove the middle arm pins and clips, lower the middle arms one to each side and secure with pins, then remove the security pins from the base and lift the whole rack until it is parallel to your vehicle, and replace the security pins to hold it in place.
The Curt 18087 fits any vehicle with a 2-inch receiver hitch tube. Check your vehicle's hitch specifications to confirm compatibility.
