Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, sockets (5.5 mm, 10 mm, 3/4 inch), flat-head screwdriver, utility knife, file, marker, tape measure, and lubricant or soapy water. A wrench may also be needed to enlarge the access hole if the carriage bolt is a tight fit.

Remove appearance panels on both sides near the wheel well that cover the frame rails. These panels will need to be trimmed or removed once the hitch is in place. Obtain owner permission before trimming.
Remove (2) hex nuts with M10 socket on the bottom of the frame rail and (2) hex nuts with M5.5 socket at the bottom of the frame rail on both sides. These fasteners are removed in Step 1.
The pull wire method allows fasteners to be fed through frame rail holes without removing the frame. Feed the coiled end of the pull wire through the rearward hole and out the access hole. Attach the spacer and carriage bolt to the pull wire, feed fasteners into location, then pull the pull wire to draw fasteners into place. Repeat for forward holes on both frame rails. The pull wires are removed after the conical washer and hex nut are installed.
It may be easier to install the carriage bolt head first when feeding it through the access hole. If the carriage bolt is a tight fit in the access hole, use a file or wrench to enlarge the access hole.
The spacer (qty. 4, .250 x 1 x 3) is attached to the pull wire along with the carriage bolt and is fed into location through the frame rail holes as part of the pull wire installation method.
The conical washer should be positioned with the teeth side against the hitch. Feed the conical washer over the pull wire to hold the bolt in place before removing the pull wire and attaching the hex nut.

If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up.
