The wire loom retainer is a clip attached to the inside of the right frame rail. During installation, you must pull it away from the frame rail. The right mounting bracket is then placed between the wire loom and the frame. The retainer will not be re-inserted after installation.
Place the right mounting bracket between the wire loom (previously pulled away) and the right frame rail, above the fuel fill lines. Lift the left mounting bracket into place, routing the wire cable through the large notch in the side bracket between the mounting holes. Both brackets should be positioned so the hitch receiver is level or above when pulled rearward and upward.
Install the fasteners loosely first (step 4). Then pull the hitch rearward and upward so the hitch receiver is level or above (step 5), and only then tighten all fasteners to the specified torque.
Tighten all M12 x 1.75 class 10.9 fasteners with a torque wrench to 92 Lb.-Ft. (125 n*m).
After raising the spare tire, check that it is secure. The spare tire may rub against the right mounting bracket of the hitch when lifting, so verify that the spare tire is properly seated and fastened.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended as part of vehicle maintenance.
