Fish wire is used to route the carriage bolts (items 1 and 2) through the large access hole at the end of the vehicle frame. The fish wire is kept attached to the hardware to help guide it through the frame and prevent it from being pushed back into the vehicle during hitch installation.

Raise the hitch into position, guiding it over the mufflers, and loosely install the initial fasteners. 4. Tighten all fasteners to specification using a torque wrench. 5. Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall all isolators.
Items 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 should be loosely installed to hold the hitch in place before final tightening. Items 3 and 4 are the initial attachment points, and items 6, 7, and 8 are installed on the U-bolt (item 5) at the towhook. All fasteners are then tightened to specification in step 4.
Always wear safety glasses when installing the hitch. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.

The U-bolt is installed over the towhook and through the bracket at the back of the hitch receiver. Items 6, 7, and 8 (flat washer, lock washer, and hex nut) are then loosely installed onto the U-bolt before final tightening to 30 lb.-ft. (41 N·m).
The large access hole at the end of the vehicle frame is used to route the fish wire and carriage bolts (items 1 and 2) through the frame. This allows the fasteners to be positioned without removing the entire frame.
Gently raise the hitch into position, carefully guiding it over the mufflers. Be careful not to push the hardware back into the vehicle frame when feeding the fish wires through the attachment holes in the hitch.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. Periodically verify that all fasteners remain tight and the hitch is securely mounted to the vehicle.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not continue to use a damaged hitch.
