Yes. You must remove the driver-side appearance panel by removing 5 plastic rivets, 3 hex nuts, and 2 Phillips head screws located in the wheel well behind the driver-side rear tire. The panel must be trimmed and then reinstalled on the vehicle.
Yes. The exhaust must be lowered by removing the rubber isolators from the muffler hangers. Remove the outside isolator first, then the inside isolator. Spraying lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and rubber isolator helps with removal. The exhaust is raised back into position and isolators reinstalled after the hitch is secured.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing weld nuts on the frame rails and existing vehicle tie-down hooks. The only modification is trimming of the driver-side appearance panel to clear the hitch.
The driver-side appearance panel must be trimmed in the area shown in the diagram. The trim area is approximately 16.25 inches wide, 4.25 inches tall at the left edge, 8.50 inches tall at the center, and 3.00 inches tall at the right edge, to accommodate the hitch and tie-down hook cutout.
All M10 CL8.8 fasteners must be tightened with a torque wrench to 38 Lb.-Ft. (52 N·M).
All 3/8-16 GR5 fasteners, including the U-bolt, must be tightened with a torque wrench to 30 Lb.-Ft. (41 N·M).
1. Remove driver-side appearance panel (5 plastic rivets, 3 hex nuts, 2 Phillips screws from wheel well). 2. Run the hitch into existing weld nuts to clear threads. 3. Reinstall appearance panel if trimmed. 4. Lower exhaust by removing rubber isolators from muffler hangers (outside first, then inside). 5. Tape flat washer to rearward weld nut location on both frame rails. 6. Raise hitch into position. 7. Install M10 fasteners. 8. Install 3/8 U-bolt through vehicle tie-down hook and receiver tie-down hook attachment with flat washer, lock washers, and hex nuts. 9. Tighten all fasteners to required torque. 10. Raise exhaust and reinstall rubber isolators.
The flat washer (item 7, 1/2" size) is taped to the rearward weld nut location on both frame rails before the hitch is raised. This positions the washer so it will be in place when the M10 fasteners are installed through the hitch into the existing weld nuts.
The 3/8-16 U-bolt is installed through the vehicle's tie-down hook and through the tie-down hook attachment of the receiver. A 3/8" flat washer, 3/8" lock washers, and 3/8" hex nuts are installed as shown in the diagram. The U-bolt fasteners are then tightened to 30 Lb.-Ft. (41 N·M).
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. When working with the exhaust system, spray lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and rubber isolators to aid removal.
The drawbar must be used in the Rise position only. The drawbar kit is sold separately under part number 36051.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. Verify that the exhaust is properly raised and the rubber isolators are reinstalled. Confirm that the appearance panel is properly reinstalled and trimmed.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not attempt to repair a damaged hitch or ball.
