Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

Equip your vehicle for towing and hitch-mounted accessories with a dependable CURT 2" trailer hitch. Designed for a vehicle-specific fit, CURT receiver hitches provide a strong and secure connection point for towing trailers, carrying bikes, transporting cargo and using other compatible 2-inch hitch accessories.
Our selection of CURT 2-inch receiver hitches includes options for trucks, SUVs, crossovers, vans and passenger vehicles. Each hitch is engineered to match specific vehicle mounting points, helping provide a clean installation and dependable performance. Depending on the vehicle application, available options may include Class 3, Class 4 and heavy-duty receiver hitches with different gross trailer weight and tongue weight capacities.
A 2" x 2" receiver opening is one of the most common hitch sizes and works with a wide range of towing accessories, including ball mounts, bike racks, cargo carriers, hitch steps and tow hooks. When towing a trailer, you may also need a properly rated trailer ball, hitch pin, wiring harness, brake controller or weight distribution system.
CURT trailer hitches feature a durable black finish designed to help protect against rust, scratches and exposure to road conditions. Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.
Use our vehicle fitment tools to find the correct CURT 2" trailer hitch for your year, make and model. Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.
Shop CURT 2-inch trailer hitches at TowUniverse for vehicle-specific fitment, trusted towing performance and access to the accessories needed to complete your towing setup.

Yes, the Draw-tite Class 4 Trailer Hitch, 2" Square Receiver, Black for Select BMW X5 75492 (Part #DT75492) is designed to fit the 2000-2006 BMW X5.
The Draw-tite Class 4 Trailer Hitch, 2" Square Receiver, Black for Select BMW X5 75492 (Part #DT75492) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, part number 75492 is designed for the BMW X5. The hitch assembly includes part numbers 87405, 75492, and 44178. The fastener kit 75492F is also required for installation.
The hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight of 6000 lb (2724 kg) and a maximum tongue weight of 600 lb (272 kg). However, you must not exceed the lower of either the hitch rating or your vehicle manufacturer's towing rating.
Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires removing the bumper and fascia by removing six fasteners as shown in Figure 2. The fascia door must also be removed or trimmed.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 1/2" hole in the bottom of the forward attachment crossmember (Step 5), then enlarge it to 11/16" (Step 7). The hitch is used as a template to mark the drilling location 1-1/8" forward from the rear edge of the forward attachment crossmember.
The fascia door can be either returned to the vehicle owner or trimmed per the template provided and reinstalled. However, you must get vehicle owner approval before trimming the fascia door. The fascia requires trimming around the hitch as shown in Figure 5, with a notch cut around the hitch area.
Required tools include wrenches (8mm, 13mm, 17mm, T50, T55, 3/4"), drill bits (1/2" and 11/16"), a torque wrench, and a utility knife. A drill is also needed to create the required holes in the crossmember.
All 1/2-13 hex bolts must be tightened to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m) using a torque wrench.
All M10 class 8.8 fasteners must be tightened to 38 lb-ft (52 N·m) using a torque wrench.
1. Remove bumper and fascia (six fasteners). 2. Remove six existing M10 fasteners from rear attachment crossmember. 3. Measure 1-1/8" forward from rear edge of forward attachment crossmember and mark a line. 4. Raise hitch and install two outer M10 fasteners finger tight. 5. Drill 1/2" hole using hitch as template. 6. Remove two M10 bolts and lower hitch for drill access. 7. Enlarge 1/2" hole to 11/16". 8. Raise hitch and loosely install six M10 fasteners. 9. Loosely install forward attachment fasteners. 10-12. Install rivet nut (tighten to 45 lb-ft, then loosen and remove temporary washers, reinstall with conical washer and torque to 75 lb-ft). 13. Reattach bumper and fascia with trimming around hitch.
No. In Step 4, install the two outer M10 fasteners finger tight only—do not torque at this time. In Step 8, loosely install all six M10 fasteners. Final torquing to 38 lb-ft (52 N·m) occurs after the rivet nut installation is complete (Step 12).
The rivet nut (item 5) is installed in the 11/16" hole using a temporary assembly: 1. Install the 1/2-13 hex bolt with flat washer (item 3) and helical lock washer (item 4). 2. Tighten to 45 lb-ft to seat the rivet nut (Step 10). 3. Loosen the bolt and remove the flat washer and lock washer—these are used only for installation (Step 11). 4. Reinstall the 1/2-13 hex bolt with the conical tooth washer (item 2) and tighten to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m) (Step 12). Hold the hitch tight against the crossmember while tightening.
The fastener kit 75492F includes: one 1/2-13 x 1.75 grade 5 hex bolt, one 1/2" conical tooth washer, one 1/2" flat washer, one 1/2" lock washer, one 1/2" rivet nut, six M10x1.50 x 50mm CL8.8 hex bolts, six 3/8" conical tooth washers, and six spacers.
Yes. In Step 2, you must remove the six existing M10 fasteners from the rear attachment crossmember and return them to the vehicle owner.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. After installation, check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. If the hitch or ball is damaged, it must be removed and replaced.
After installation, check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. Verify that all 1/2-13 fasteners are torqued to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m) and all M10 fasteners are torqued to 38 lb-ft (52 N·m). Ensure the bumper and fascia are properly reattached with the fascia trimmed correctly around the hitch.
Check the hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended to maintain safe towing operation.
The wiring access location is SUV3.4, as indicated in the manual. This refers to the location where the wiring harness connects to the vehicle.
Yes, part 75492 is designed for the BMW X5. It includes parts 87405, 75492, and 44178, plus fastener kit 75492F.
Maximum 6000 lb (2724 kg) gross trailer weight and 600 lb (272 kg) tongue weight, but do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's rating.
Yes, you must drill a 1/2" hole and enlarge it to 11/16" in the forward attachment crossmember. The fascia door must also be removed or trimmed.
Wrenches (8mm, 13mm, 17mm, T50, T55, 3/4"), drill bits (1/2" and 11/16"), torque wrench, utility knife, and a drill.
1/2-13 fasteners: 75 lb-ft (102 N·m). M10 class 8.8 fasteners: 38 lb-ft (52 N·m). Rivet nut installation torque: 45 lb-ft (temporary).
Yes, the bumper and fascia must be removed by removing six fasteners (Step 1). The fascia door must also be removed or trimmed.
Wear eye protection. Do not use a torch to cut holes. Work safely beneath the vehicle. Check fasteners frequently after installation. If removed, plug all holes to prevent water and exhaust fume entry.
Ensure you are tightening the 1/2-13 hex bolt to exactly 45 lb-ft (102 N·m) as specified in Step 10. The manual states this torque value will seat the rivet nut. If the nut still does not seat, verify that the 11/16" hole was drilled to the correct size and that the hitch is held tight against the crossmember while tightening.
Check all fasteners with a torque wrench and retorque to the specified values: 1/2-13 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m) and M10 fasteners to 38 lb-ft (52 N·m). The manual emphasizes checking the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If fasteners continue to loosen, the conical tooth washers may not be providing adequate locking action.
If the hitch is removed or if holes are left unplugged, water and exhaust fumes can enter through the trunk pan or body panels. Plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent this entry. If water or fumes are already present, locate and seal all openings created during installation.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
