Grip Step van steps are equipped with high-traction treads for fleet-approved safety, and they are made from powder-coated aluminum to be lightweight and provide long-lasting resistance to the elements. All Grip Step running boards are engineered for vehicle-specific installation. These van steps offer a custom fit for certain years and styles of the Chevy Express 2500 or 3500 and GMC Savana 2500 or 3500 (see application info to verify fitment with your cargo van). They come with two longer steps, one for the driver-side door and one for the passenger-side door. They also come with powder-coated steel brackets and stainless steel hardware for a complete install. Grip Step running boards for vans are optimized for delivery trucks, construction vehicles and other commercial vans. They feature a 7" width, covered with expanded metal treads to grip the bottom of your boots for safe entry and exit every time. The metal treads are also highly resistant to wear, and they help keep the steps clean with their open, through-hole design. 1. Determine the required board length and cut using a saber saw, chop saw, or hack saw. Touch up cut ends with flat black paint. 2. Slide the appropriate number of support braces (item #2) into the channel of the step board (item #1). 3. Slide the end cap (item #3) over the front and rear of each step. 4. Attach the end cap to the bottom of the step using the supplied #8 x 1/2" self-drilling tek screw (item #8). 5. Set the step on the mounting brackets and slide each support brace over the top of each mounting bracket. 6. Attach the flat spacer plate (item #4) to the bottom of the step between the support brace and the top of the mounting bracket. 7. Attach using the supplied 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolt, washer, and flange nuts (items #5, 6, 7). Note: Some flange nuts are supplied in the bracket package, not the step package.
Set the step on the mounting brackets and slide each support brace over the top of each mounting bracket. Attach the flat spacer plate (item #4) to the bottom of the step, positioned between the support brace and the top of the mounting bracket. Use the supplied 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolt, washer, and flange nuts (items #5, 6, 7) to attach the step assembly, spacer plate, and mounting bracket together. Note that some flange nuts may be supplied in the bracket package rather than the step package.
All fasteners on the Model 415114 GRIP STEPS assembly must be torqued to 19 LB FT after the step plate is set in the correct position.
Installation is performed on the left side first, then repeated on the right side. Left side sequence: 1. Remove the front body mounting bolt (reuse bolt, steel washer, and rubber cushion). 2. Install the multi-thread U-nut (item #11) on the front mounting bracket (item #2), selecting the top hole for 1500 vans or bottom hole for 2500 and 3500 vans. 3. Install the front mounting bracket with washer and rubber cushion between bracket and body mount, with the step end perpendicular to the body. Tighten to 65 LB FT. 4. Install the load reaction bolt assembly using the 3/8"-16 x 5" hex bolt (item #9) and serrated flange nuts (item #10), with rubber washer (item #14) and flat washer (item #16). 5. Remove the second body mounting bolt (reuse bolt, washer, and cushion). 6. Install the multi-thread U-nut on the second mounting bracket (item #4) with cap plug (item #13), selecting the appropriate hole. 7. Install the second mounting bracket with washer and rubber cushion. Tighten to 65 LB FT. 8. Install the load reaction bolt assembly using the 3/8"-16 x 1-3/4" hex bolt (item #8) and serrated flange nuts. 9. Repeat for the third mounting bracket (item #5), installing the U-nut in the top hole for 2500 and 3500 vans. 10. Measure from the bottom of the body flange to the bottom of the mounting brackets to ensure they are level; adjust the third bracket as needed before final tightening. 11. Remove the nut and washer from the front spring shackle bolt (reuse nut). Install the black spacer washer (item #15), mounting bracket (item #6), 5/8" flat washer (item #12), and factory nut. Adjust height and tighten to 65 LB FT. 12. Repeat steps 1-11 on the right side.
Yes. Installation requires removal of the front body mounting bolt, the second body mounting bolt, and the front spring shackle bolt. All three bolts, along with their steel washers and rubber cushions, must be saved and reused as part of the mounting bracket installation.
The front mounting bracket (item #2) is tightened to 65 LB FT. The second mounting bracket (item #4) is tightened to 65 LB FT. The spring shackle bolt assembly is tightened to 65 LB FT.
For the front mounting bracket (item #2): install the U-nut in the top hole for 1500 vans, and in the bottom hole for 2500 and 3500 vans. For the second mounting bracket (item #4): install the U-nut in the top hole for 1500 vans, and in the bottom hole for 2500 and 3500 vans. For the third mounting bracket (item #5): install the U-nut in the top hole for 2500 and 3500 vans (note: the manual does not specify the hole for 1500 vans on the third bracket).
For the front load reaction bolt assembly (using 3/8"-16 x 5" hex bolt, item #9): 1. Install a 3/8"-16 serrated flange nut (item #10) on the bolt with the flange facing toward the end of the bolt, and turn on just short of the head. 2. Screw the bolt into the U-nut. 3. When the bolt comes through the other side, start another flange nut facing the same direction as the first nut. 4. Turn the nut on until there is 3/4" protruding from the face of the nut. 5. Install a 3/8" flat washer (item #16) and the .354 x 1.00 x .748 rubber washer (item #14) into the end of the bolt. 6. Adjust the load reaction bolt assembly so that the rubber cushion is snug against the frame and tighten down the outside flange nut. For the rear load reaction bolt assembly (using 3/8"-16 x 1-3/4" hex bolt, item #8): follow the same procedure but adjust so that the rubber plug is snug against the frame before tightening the outside flange nut.
After mounting the first, second, and third brackets, measure from the bottom of the body flange down to the bottom of the mounting brackets to ensure they are all at the same height. When installing the third bracket, adjust it to match this dimension before tightening the bolts.
Refer to the instructions included with your GRIP STEP boards (Model 415114) to mount the steps to the mounting brackets. The board assembly instructions are separate from the bracket mounting instructions.
