LUVERNE Grip Step 7" running boards for vans are the ideal work van accessories, adding safe, dependable footing to your cargo van with a vehicle-specific fit. Grip Step van steps are equipped with high-traction treads for fleet-approved safety, and they are made from powder-coated aluminum to be lightweight and provide long-lasting resistance to the elements. All Grip Step running boards are engineered for vehicle-specific installation. These van steps offer a custom fit for certain years and styles of the Dodge Sprinter 2500 or 3500, Freightliner Sprinter 2500 or 3500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 or 3500 (see application info to verify fitment with your cargo van). They come with two shorter steps, one for the driver-side door and one for the passenger-side door. They also come with powder-coated steel brackets and stainless steel hardware for a complete install. Grip Step running boards for vans are optimized for delivery trucks, construction vehicles and other commercial vans. They feature a 7" width, covered with expanded metal treads to grip the bottom of your boots for safe entry and exit every time. The metal treads are also highly resistant to wear, and they help keep the steps clean with their open, through-hole design. The aluminum construction of LUVERNE Grip Step running boards makes them strong for a rigid step, but lightweight for optimized fuel efficiency. Aluminum is also highly corrosion-resistant. To maximize corrosion resistance, Grip Step van steps are shielded in a textured black powder coat finish. The Model 415036 package includes the step boards (extrusions) and assembly hardware only. You will receive 2 step extrusions (36 inches each), 4 upper support braces, 4 end caps, 4 lower spacer plates, 8 carriage bolts (5/16-18 x 1"), 8 flat washers (5/16), 8 serrated flange nuts (5/16-18), and 8 self-drilling tek screws (#8 x 1/2"). The mounting brackets are sold separately and must be ordered specific to your vehicle.
The Model 400741 bracket package is designed for 2007-newer Sprinter vans only. If your Sprinter van is model year 2007 or newer, this package is compatible. The installation instructions are specific to Sprinter vans and include separate procedures for driver's side and passenger side installation.

If your truck does NOT have rear A/C, you must scrape the undercoating off around the body plug and remove it, then drill a 7/16" hole 1/2" to the front of the body plug hole and insert a 5/16-18 U-nut. If your truck DOES have rear A/C, you do not remove the body plug; instead, you mark the hole location using the bracket as a guide, center punch, and drill with a 7/32" drill bit, then install a 1/4" self-tapping screw.
Three drill bit sizes are required: 7/16", 7/32", and 11/32". The 7/16" bit is used to drill the hole 1/2" in front of the body plug hole (trucks without rear A/C only). The 7/32" bit is used to drill the marked hole for the self-tapping screw (trucks with rear A/C) and for the rear bracket top slot. All 5/16" fasteners on the Model 415036 grip steps must be torqued to 19 lb-ft. This applies to the carriage bolts, washers, and flange nuts that attach the step assembly to the mounting brackets.
The fasteners are: 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts (item #5, qty 8), 5/16" flat washers (item #6, qty 8), and 5/16-18 serrated flange nuts (item #7, qty 8). These fasteners pass through the support braces, spacer plates, and mounting brackets. All must be torqued to 19 lb-ft.

Measure about 9-1/2" back from the front of the mud flap on the back side of the rocker panel. In this location there should be a body plug. The front bracket is mounted at this location. The exact fastening method depends on whether your truck has rear A/C (see separate questions for trucks with and without rear A/C).
Measure about 27 1/2" back from the front of the mud flap on the back side of the rocker panel. This is approximately where the second (rear) bracket will be installed. Before drilling, measure the height of the first bracket from the top of the bracket to the bottom of the floor board; this measurement helps ensure the rear bracket is mounted level. Use the bracket as a guide to mark the hole location using the top slot in the bracket.
"Finger tighten only" means to tighten the fasteners by hand until snug, without using tools. This is done during the preassembly of the brackets with spacer brackets (step 1) and when initially installing the rear bracket's self-tapping screw (step 3.4). Final tightening with tools occurs after all holes are drilled and all fasteners are in place.
The retainer plate (item #8) is placed on the back side of the pinch weld to distribute the load of the bolts and prevent the fasteners from pulling through the metal. After drilling the lower bracket mount holes and inserting the 5/16-18 bolts and washers through the drilled holes, the retainer plate is positioned over the bolts on the back side of the pinch weld, and flange nuts are installed to secure the bracket.
Yes, the installation procedures for the passenger side are the same as the driver's side. The manual states: "ATTACHING THE BRACKETS WILL BE THE SAME AS THE DRIVERS SIDE, STEPS 2 THRU 3." Both the front and rear brackets are installed using the same methods and fasteners on both sides of the vehicle.
