LUVERNE Grip Step wheel-to-wheel running boards equip your pickup truck for whatever job lies ahead. They offer easier truck bed access, fleet-level safety, a highly rust-free construction and a custom fit for your truck and lifestyle. Grip Step wheel-to-wheel steps are the ideal solution for better truck bed access. Whether you need to reach a truck tool box, ladder rack or some cargo in the truck bed, the wheel-to-wheel steps are extra-long, providing a convenient step up for reaching into the truck bed. Grip Step running boards are also built for hard work, featuring expanded metal treads that offer fleet-approved safety. The open treads ensure maximum traction for your boots -- whether rain or shine -- and they also help keep your truck's interior clean by allowing dirt, snow and debris to pass through the boards. For superior resistance to the elements, Grip Step wheel-to-wheel running boards are made from aluminum alloy. They're strong, lightweight and highly corrosion-resistant. To maximize this corrosion resistance, the running boards and brackets are both shielded in a durable black powder coat finish. The running boards also feature hardened plastic end caps that eliminate sharp corners and add a professional touch. All LUVERNE Grip Step wheel-to-wheel steps are designed for vehicle-specific applications. This ensures a custom fit and the easiest possible installation. The running boards mount with vehicle-specific brackets and use pre-existing mounting points to avoid difficult modifications. This particular set of wheel-to-wheel running boards is designed to fit specific years of the Ram 1500 and Dodge Ram 1500 (see application information to verify fitment; brackets included but shipped separately).
Grip Step wheel-to-wheel running boards are designed to be the best running boards for work trucks, featuring a unique expanded metal tread pattern for superior traction and a 7" width for reliable footing.

LUVERNE has manufactured truck accessories in the United States since 1963, specialising in grille guards, running boards, side steps and mud guards for pickups, commercial vans and SUVs. Products are built primarily from stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel, with model-specific mounting kits that use existing frame locations for a bolt-on installation.
LUVERNE has been manufacturing automotive accessories in the United States since 1963, and six decades of continuous production have made it a nationally recognised name in the truck accessory market. Now a Lippert brand, it concentrates on a defined set of products rather than spreading across the whole aftermarket: front-end protection, step access and spray protection for pickup trucks, commercial vans and sport utility vehicles.
Step products are the largest part of the catalog and the range is unusually deep, because the right step depends on the vehicle's ride height, the width of the rocker panel and how often people get in and out. The O-Mega II six-inch oval steps give a wide, flat standing surface in polished stainless or black powder coat, while the Regal 7 seven-inch oval steps go wider still for full-size crew cabs and lifted trucks. The broader running board and side bar range covers round tube, oval and boxed profiles across cab configurations, with treads positioned at the door openings where they are used.
Grille guards protect the front end against impacts, brush and road debris, built in tubular stainless or steel with model-specific brackets that tie into factory frame mounting points. Because the fit is engineered per vehicle, installation is a bolt-on job that does not require drilling or cutting on most applications.
Rounding out the line, LUVERNE mud guards and mud flaps shield rocker panels, paint and following vehicles from stones and road spray, in widths matched to the tyre and fender they sit behind. Material choice runs through everything the brand does: stainless steel where appearance and corrosion resistance matter most, aluminium where weight is the priority, and mild steel with protective coating where strength and value lead. Customers include contractors, fleet operators, van upfitters and truck owners.

Curt manufactures two grip step models: 415078 (77.62" extrusion) and 415088 (87.75" extrusion). These are boards only and are designed for universal applications. The 400938 is a Regal 7/Grip Step Bracket Kit specifically for 2009+ Dodge Ram 1500 cab pickups.
The 400938 bracket kit is designed for 2009 and newer Dodge Ram 1500 cab pickups. If your truck is a 2009 or later model, it should be compatible. However, the manual does not specify compatibility with different cab styles (regular, extended, or crew cab) or bed lengths, so you should verify fitment with the manufacturer or a fitment database before purchasing.
The grip step boards (models 415078 and 415088) are designed for universal applications. They are sold as boards only and must be paired with a vehicle-specific bracket package to mount them to your truck. The bracket package you choose depends on your vehicle make, model, and year.
Each grip step board package includes: 8 support braces (part 551296), 4 end caps (part 551394), 8 lower spacer plates (part 551298), 16 carriage bolts 5/16-18 x 1" (part 108683), 16 flat washers 5/16" (part 101369), 16 serrated flange nuts 5/16-18 (part 102680), and 8 self-drilling tek screws #8 x 1/2" (part 107958). Some flange nuts may be supplied in the bracket package instead of the step package.
The 400938 bracket kit includes: 3 front/middle/rear mounting brackets (parts 553092, 553093), 2 inboard W2W brackets (parts 551881, 551882), 2 outboard W2W brackets (part 552125), 2 W2W support brackets (part 552875), and fasteners including 1/2-13 hex screws, 3/8-16 hex screws, 5/16-18 hex screws, 1/4-20 carriage bolts, M8 x 25mm screws, and corresponding washers and flange nuts. The manual lists 23 distinct hardware items with specific quantities.
Yes. The manual explicitly requires you to read the instructions completely and verify that all required parts listed on the service parts list are on hand before starting installation. This applies to both the grip step boards and the bracket kit.
Follow this sequence: (1) Slide the appropriate number of support braces (item 2) into the channel of the step (item 1). (2) Slide the end cap (item 3) over the front and rear of each step. (3) Screw the end cap to the bottom of the step using the supplied #8 x 1/2" self-drilling tek screw (item 8). (4) Set the step on the mounting brackets and slide each support brace over the top of each mounting bracket. (5) Attach the flat spacer plate (item 4) to the bottom of the step between the support brace and the top of the mounting bracket. (6) Attach using the 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts, washers, and flange nuts (items 5, 6, 7).
Slide the appropriate number of support braces (item 2) into the channel of the step (item 1) before attaching the grip steps to the brackets. The support braces are inserted into the step channel and later slide over the top of the mounting brackets when the step is set in place.
Slide the end cap (item 3) over the front and rear of each step. Using the supplied #8 x 1/2" self-drilling tek screw (item 8), screw the end cap to the bottom of the step. The end caps are plastic and are secured with tek screws.
Set the step on the mounting brackets and slide each support brace over the top of each mounting bracket. Attach the flat spacer plate (item 4) to the bottom of the step between the support brace and the top of the mounting bracket. Using the supplied 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts, washers, and flange nuts (items 5, 6, 7), attach the step assembly, flat spacer plate, and mounting bracket together. Set the step plate in the correct position and tighten all fasteners. Torque all 5/16" fasteners to 19 LB FT.
Place the driver's side front bracket (item 1) up to the pinchweld with the lower mounting flange to the outside. Align the two rectangular holes of the lower mounting flange with the two obround holes in the pinchweld. Insert two 1/4-20 x 1" carriage bolts (item 16) through the lower mounting flange and pinchweld. Place a 1/4" flat washer (item 17) and 1/4-20 flange nut (item 18) on the bolts and leave finger-tight. Insert an M8 x 25mm screw (item 19) with a 5/16" flat washer (item 20) through the slots on the upper mounting flange and leave finger-tight. Repeat for the middle and rear brackets (item 2). For the passenger side, use item 2 for the front bracket and item 1 for the middle and rear brackets.
Install the T-bolt weldment (item 22) into the large obround hole on the vertical wall of the rocker panel, inserting the nut end first and leaving the threaded stud sticking out. Attach the flat plastic bolt retainer (item 23) to the threaded stud to prevent the T-bolt from falling into the rocker panel. Place the driver's side front bracket (item 1) up to the pinchweld with the lower mounting flange to the outside. Align the two rectangular holes with the two obround holes in the pinchweld. Insert two 1/4-20 x 1" carriage bolts (item 16) through the lower mounting flange and pinchweld. Place a 1/4" flat washer (item 17) and 1/4-20 flange nut (item 18) on the bolts and leave finger-tight. Place a flat washer (item 20) and M8 flange nut (item 21) on the threaded stud of the T-bolt and leave finger-tight. Rotate the T-bolt so the threaded nut is visible through the slotted hole in the upper mounting flange. Insert an M8 x 25mm screw (item 19) with a 5/16" flat washer (item 20) and leave finger-tight. Repeat for the middle and rear brackets (item 2). For the passenger side, use item 2 for the front bracket and item 1 for the middle and rear brackets.
Yes. 2009 to 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks do not have obround holes in the pinchweld and will require drilling two 5/16" holes for each bracket. To locate the drilling points, follow the installation steps with the bracket in place, then mark the pinchweld for drilling. After drilling, proceed with the installation using the carriage bolts and fasteners as described in the instructions.
Attach the inboard mounting brackets (items 3 and 4) to the frame using 1/2-13 x 1.00" hex screws, 1/2" washers, and 1/2-13 serrated flange nuts (items 10, 11, 12). Note that these mounting brackets are not the same from left to right. Leave the brackets loose at this time; do not tighten until all brackets and boards are positioned and adjusted.
Attach the W2W support bracket (item 6) to the inboard mounting bracket using two 3/8-16 x 1" hex screws, two 3/8" washers, and two 3/8-16 flange nuts (items 7, 8, 9). Also attach the W2W support bracket to the frame using a 1/2-13 x 1" hex screw, a 1/2" washer, and a 1/2-13 serrated flange nut (items 10, 11, 12). Leave the bracket loose at this time.
Install the W2W outboard mounting bracket (item 5) to the inboard W2W bracket using two black 5/16-18 x 1" hex screws, two black 5/16" washers, and two black 5/16-18 flange nuts (items 13, 14, 15). Leave the bracket loose at this time; do not tighten until all brackets and boards are positioned and adjusted.
All fasteners on the 400938 bracket kit must be left finger-tight during the initial installation steps. Only after the step plates are installed and all brackets and boards are adjusted to the correct position should you tighten all fasteners. The manual does not specify final torque values for the 1/2-13, 3/8-16, or M8 fasteners used on this kit.
All 5/16" fasteners (5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts, washers, and flange nuts) on the grip step boards must be torqued to 19 LB FT after the step plate is set in the correct position.
When installing the T-bolt weldment (item 22) into the large obround hole on the rocker panel, be careful not to drop the T-bolt inside the rocker panel. After inserting the nut end first and leaving the threaded stud sticking out, immediately attach the flat plastic bolt retainer (item 23) to the threaded stud. This retainer is essential to keep the T-bolt from falling into the rocker panel.
The 400938 Regal 7/Grip Step Bracket Kit is designed for 2009 and newer Dodge Ram 1500 cab pickups. Verify your truck year and model before purchasing.
Yes, the 415078 and 415088 grip step boards are universal. They are sold as boards only and require a vehicle-specific bracket package for installation.

Torque all 5/16" fasteners to 19 LB FT after positioning the step plate.
No. Leave all fasteners finger-tight during installation. Tighten all fasteners only after the step plates are installed and all brackets and boards are positioned and adjusted.
Be careful not to drop the T-bolt inside the rocker panel. Immediately attach the plastic bolt retainer to the threaded stud to prevent it from falling.
Use 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolts, 5/16" flat washers, and 5/16-18 serrated flange nuts. Torque to 19 LB FT.
