Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The Pole Tongue Adapter 58393 is a mounting platform designed to be used with Cequent Towing Products Weight Distributing Round bar, Trunnion bar (square), or Pro Series SC WD kits. It allows these weight distributing systems to be mounted on a trailer tongue.
The maximum tongue weight for the Figure 1 configuration is 1,400 lbs (635 kg). This applies when the adapter is used with Weight Distributing Round bar, Trunnion bar, or Pro Series SC WD kits.
The maximum tongue weight for the Figure 2 configuration is 1,200 lbs (544 kg), with a maximum gross trailer weight of 12,000 lbs (5,443 kg).
The maximum gross trailer weight for the Figure 1 configuration is 14,000 lbs (6,349 kg), with a maximum tongue weight of 1,400 lbs (635 kg). You must not exceed the lower of your towing vehicle manufacturer's rating or these maximum weights.
Fastener Kit 58393F is required. This kit includes all hex bolts, washers, and lock nuts needed for installation.
You will need wrenches in 9/16" and 3/4" sizes, plus a torque wrench. The torque wrench is essential because all 1/2" GR5 fasteners must be tightened to 80 Lb.-Ft. (108 N·M).
A steel spacer block must be used to eliminate the gap between the bolt and trailer tongue for non-standard size trailer frames. If your trailer frame is a standard size, a spacer block may not be necessary, but you should verify this before installation.
The cross channel should be centered on the trailer tongue approximately 29" rearward from the center of the coupler. However, this dimension will vary depending on the model of WD system used. You must refer to your specific WD kit's installation instructions for the exact dimensions and setup information required for your system.
The maximum setup dimension is 32". The cross channel must not be positioned more than 32" rearward from the center of the coupler.
1. Center the cross channel on the trailer tongue approximately 29" rearward from the coupler center (refer to your WD kit instructions for exact dimension). 2. Loosely attach the two angle brackets to the cross channel using the 1/2" x 1.50" hex bolts, conical toothed washers, and hex lock nuts. 3. Slide the angle brackets tight against the side of the trailer tongue and tighten all four 1/2" x 1.50" hex bolts. 4. Install the 1/2" x 6" hex bolts and flat washers through the appropriate hole in the angle bracket so bolts are directly under the trailer tongue; loosely install the flat washers and hex lock nuts. 5. Adjust the fore/aft location of the cross channel to match your WD system's specifications, ensuring you do not exceed the 32" maximum setup dimension. 6. Install the lift units (frame brackets) following your weight distributing system's hook-up procedure.
The angle brackets should be loosely attached initially in Step 2. They are tightened in Step 3 only after they have been slid tight against the side of the trailer tongue. This allows for proper positioning before final tightening.
The 1/2" x 6" bolts that go under the trailer tongue should be loosely installed with their flat washers and hex lock nuts in Step 4. They are tightened to final torque specification (80 Lb.-Ft.) after the cross channel position has been adjusted to match your WD system's specifications.
All 1/2" GR5 fasteners must be tightened with a torque wrench to 80 Lb.-Ft. (108 N·M). This applies to all hex bolts used in the installation.
The hex bolts that attach the angle brackets to the cross channel are 1/2" x 1.50" long, Grade 5 (GR5). There are four of these bolts in the fastener kit.
The hex bolts that go under the trailer tongue are 1/2" x 6" long, Grade 5 (GR5). There are two of these bolts in the fastener kit.
The Fastener Kit 58393F includes: 8 conical toothed washers (1/2"), 6 hex lock nuts (1/2"-13), and 4 flat washers (1/2"). The conical toothed washers are used with the angle bracket bolts, and the flat washers are used with the bolts that go under the trailer tongue.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A damaged hitch or ball must be removed and replaced immediately.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not just a one-time post-installation check.
