Fastener kit 24992F includes: (4) 1/2" flat washers, (4) 3/8" flat washers, (3) 1/2"-13 x 2.00" carriage bolts, (2) 3/8" conical washers (part no. 01292006), (3) 1/2"-13 Grade 5 nuts, (2) M8 x 1.25 x 40 bolts, (2) spacers 1/4" x 1" x 2" (part no. 5121), (3) 1/2" conical washers (part no. 01292008), and (1) spacer 1/4" x 1-1/2" x 3" (part no. 1171).
Before installation, you must: (1) remove the carbon canister splash guard panel on the driver side by removing two push-pin rivets, (2) loosen the rear wheel well liners by removing two push-pin rivets and two screws per side, (3) lower the exhaust by removing two rubber hangers from the muffler, (4) remove one bolt from each vehicle end panel using a 12mm socket, and (5) trim the fascia with a hack saw (cut second tab on driver side and trim two 1" square notches at specified distances).

All fasteners must be installed loosely first. Only after all fasteners are in place should you tighten them with a torque wrench: M8 fasteners to 20 ft-lb (27 N·m) and 1/2" fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m).
Tape (2) 1/2" and (2) 3/8" flat washers to the hitch brackets before raising the hitch into position. Align the holes with the hitch bracket slots.
Spacers are used with the carriage bolts and conical washers to secure the hitch to the vehicle end panel. The spacers must lay flat on the end panel and be positioned horizontally. Two sizes are used: 1/4" x 1" x 2" (part no. 5121) and 1/4" x 1-1/2" x 3" (part no. 1171).
The teeth side of the conical washer must face toward the hitch.
The manual states that the exhaust must be supported before removing the rubber hangers. It does not specify the method of support. A spray lubricant or soapy water on the rubber hangers makes them slide off the metal pins more easily.
The existing weldnuts must remain fastened to the opposite side of the end panel. Do not remove them. The M8 bolts and conical washers are loosely installed into these existing weldnuts.

A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced.

If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up.
Check the hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. Periodically verify that all fasteners are tight and the hitch is securely mounted to the vehicle.
