Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

The 45508 hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight rating of 18,000 lb (8,172 kg). However, you must not exceed the lower of your towing vehicle manufacturer's rating or this hitch rating. Tongue weight capacity is 2,000 lb (908 kg) for weight carrying mode or 2,500 lb (1,135 kg) for weight distributing mode.
You will need a ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, 21 mm and 24 mm sockets, and a 6-inch socket extension. A large breaker bar may also be required to remove the factory hitch.
Fastener Kit 45508F includes: 12 M14 bolts (2.00 x 45 mm, Class 10.9), 24 conical washers (5/8 inch), 12 M14 hex nuts (M14 x 2.00), and 4 spacers (1 x 2 x 3/16 inch). Two of the 12 bolts and nuts come pre-attached to the hitch.
Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires you to lower the spare tire before beginning. After installation is complete, you will raise the spare tire again in step 9.
You must remove the electrical plug mounting bracket, vibration dampener, and factory hitch if equipped. A large breaker bar may be required. Save the factory plates, bolts, and nuts—they will be reused during installation.
1. Lower spare tire and remove electrical bracket, vibration dampener, and factory hitch. 2. Insert bolts and washers into frame. 3. Raise hitch and finger-tighten washers and nuts. 4. Loosen bumper mounting bracket bolts and slide in 3/16-inch spacers (one side at a time). 5. Place wood block between hitch and bumper. 6. Remove bumper mounting nuts and bolt plates, slide vertical attachment plate between them, and reinstall (one side at a time). 7. Drill new holes in factory electrical bracket using electrical mount tab as guide and secure with fasteners (not included). 8. Tighten all fasteners to specification. 9. Raise spare tire.
Yes. Step 7 requires drilling new holes in the factory electrical bracket using the hole pattern in the electrical mount tab as a guide. The fasteners for these holes are not included with the hitch kit and must be obtained separately.
No. The manual explicitly states: 'Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.' You must use appropriate drilling equipment instead.
All M12 fasteners must be tightened to 92 Lb.-Ft. (125 N·M) using a torque wrench.
All M14 fasteners must be tightened to 115 Lb.-Ft. (156 N·M) using a torque wrench.
After all components are positioned and adjusted, tighten all M12 fasteners to 92 Lb.-Ft. (125 N·M) and all M14 fasteners to 115 Lb.-Ft. (156 N·M) in step 8. This is the final tightening step before raising the spare tire.
The conical washer teeth side must be placed against the hitch. This orientation is shown in the installation diagram and is critical for proper fastener function.
In step 5, a wood block is placed between the new hitch and bumper to support the bumper during step 6, when the vertical attachment plate is being installed. This prevents the bumper from dropping or shifting during the installation process.
The bumper mounting bracket bolts must be loosened to allow 3/16-inch spacers to be inserted (step 4) and to allow the vertical attachment plate to be slid between the bumper mounting bracket and frame (step 6). This adjustment ensures proper bumper alignment and clearance with the new hitch.
No. The manual specifies 'working on one side at a time' for steps 4 and 6. This approach ensures proper alignment and adjustment of the bumper location before moving to the other side.
The 3/16-inch spacers (item 4 in the fastener kit) are inserted between the bumper mounting bracket and bumper to adjust the bumper location during installation. They are slid in after loosening the bumper mounting bracket bolts in step 4.
Yes. The manual instructs you to unbolt the plates from the factory hitch and save the plates, bolts, and nuts for reuse during the 45508 hitch installation. These factory fasteners are reinstalled in step 6 when attaching the vertical attachment plate.
The vertical attachment plate is installed between the bumper mounting bracket and the frame in step 6. It is slid into position one side at a time, and the factory bolt plates and nuts are reinstalled to secure it. This component helps properly position the bumper relative to the new hitch.
Yes. The manual shows holes for remounting the vibration dampener if equipped. These holes are visible in the installation diagram and can be used to reinstall the dampener after the hitch installation is complete.
You must always wear safety glasses when installing the hitch. The manual also recommends observing safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle.
The maximum tongue weight in weight carrying mode is 2,000 lb (908 kg). Do not exceed this limit or the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's towing rating.
The maximum tongue weight in weight distributing mode is 2,500 lb (1,135 kg). Do not exceed this limit or the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's towing rating.
Load the trailer heavier in front. This helps maintain proper weight distribution and improves towing stability.
If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up. These actions help regain control of the vehicle and trailer.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. The manual emphasizes that proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing, so periodic inspection is essential for safe operation.
The manual states: 'Check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened.' While a specific interval is not provided, regular inspection before towing is recommended to ensure safe operation.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. This protects the vehicle's interior and prevents corrosion.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not attempt to repair a damaged hitch, as this could compromise safety during towing.
Improper torque specification is the primary cause. Ensure all M12 fasteners are tightened to exactly 92 Lb.-Ft. (125 N·M) and all M14 fasteners to 115 Lb.-Ft. (156 N·M) using a calibrated torque wrench. Additionally, check fasteners periodically during use, as vibration from towing can loosen fasteners over time.
Bumper misalignment typically results from improper adjustment during installation. In steps 4 and 6, the bumper location must be adjusted before re-tightening the bolts. Ensure the 3/16-inch spacers are properly positioned and that the vertical attachment plate is correctly installed one side at a time. Loosen the bolts again and readjust if necessary.
