After nearly 70 years, the staple product has been upgraded to offer up to 2,100 lbs. of load-leveling capabilities. Specifically designed for drivers of RAM 1500 pickups, these custom-molded polyurethane air springs are simply inserted in the rear coil springs, no vehicle modifications required. Working with the vehicles existing suspension, Air Lift 1000 HD does away with many of the problems frequently faced when towing or hauling heavy loads, including squat, poor headlight aim, unresponsive steering, trailer sway, body roll, and bottoming out. Required tools include: standard and metric open-end and box wrenches, adjustable wrench, ratchet, pliers, standard and metric sockets (regular and deep-well), a sharp 5/16" drill bit, heavy-duty drill, hose cutter or sharp knife, hoist or jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and a spray bottle with dish soap and water solution. A china marker or white crayon is also needed to mark spring locations.

The first step is to mark the upper and lower springs and spring seats with a china marker, tire marker, or white crayon to note their location. This ensures the springs are reinstalled in the correct orientation. Mark both the driver's (left) and passenger's (right) sides.
Yes. You must remove the lower shock bolts, lift the vehicle and support it with safety stands, drop the axle low enough to remove the coil springs, and remove one spring at a time. The air springs are then inserted into the top of the stock coil spring cavity. After removing each coil spring, discard the lower rubber isolator (the middle one), but leave the top rubber isolator in place.
Lift the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands, leaving enough room to drop the axle down low enough to remove the coil springs. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use safety stands. Wear safety glasses during installation.
Cut the air line into two equal lengths and install a straight pump connector and air line clamp on one end of each line. Remove the valve cap from the air spring and screw the pump connector on finger tight. Slide an air spring protector over the hose and onto the top of the air spring. Insert the air spring assembly into the top of the stock coil spring and push to the bottom. Set the rubber upper spring seat on top, ensuring the coil spring end is positioned correctly and the small tabs on the rubber mount go into the holes in the upper spring seat. Insert the hose through the hole in the upper spring seat mount and reinstall the assembly, aligning the marks you made earlier on both the upper and lower portions of the coil spring with the marks on the spring seats.
Torque the lower shock bolts to 100 lb.-ft. (135 Nm) after both air springs are in position and the axle is raised fully.
Use zip ties to route the air lines above the frame and toward the area behind the rear license plate. Above the coil springs, leave enough slack in the air lines for suspension articulation to prevent strain during axle motion. The manual recommends a single-path installation (using a tee fitting) for vehicles with even weight distribution, or a dual-path installation (separate lines for each air spring) if weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed.
Single-path installation uses a tee fitting to combine air lines from both air springs into one line to the Schrader valve. This is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. Dual-path installation eliminates the tee fitting and routes separate air lines from each air spring to the Schrader valve. Use dual-path if weight in the vehicle varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load.
For all air line connections: (1) Slide the air line clamp onto the air line, (2) Push the air line and clamp over the barbed stem so the air line covers all the barbs, (3) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. This procedure applies to connections at the tee fitting, Schrader valve, and air springs.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" (8mm) hole to mount the Schrader valve. Select a protected location that is accessible with an air hose, such as inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or the license plate or rear bumper area. The valve is mounted with a hex nut, star washer, rubber washer, and flat washer as shown in the manual.
A 5/16" (8mm) drill bit is required. The manual specifies that the bit should be very sharp. A heavy-duty drill is recommended.
Yes. The kit includes 15 feet of air line. You must cut it into two equal lengths (7.5 feet each) for the left and right air springs.
