The Blue Ox BX1122 Tow Bar Bracket is a top-grade towing component, created to enhance and simplify your towing experience. Custom-designed for your specific vehicle, this tow bar bracket ensures a perfect fit and easy installation. Built with resilience, it's made from high-quality steel and finished with a durable black powder coat to withstand the harshest road conditions. This product comes with all the necessary hardware and a comprehensive installation guide, making it an excellent choice for DIY enthusiasts.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX1122 baseplate is designed for 2005-07 Jeep Liberty vehicles. The attachment tab height is 19" and width is 20". However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, so the baseplate may need slight tailoring to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. If the front of your vehicle looks different than shown in the manual, contact Blue Ox technical service at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding.
The kit includes: 6 nut plates with 14" wire (61-5208), 1 baseplate (61-6075), 2 attachment tab assemblies (62-3468), 2 backing plates (102-6572), 2 #10-32 1/2" round slotted head screws (201-0192), 2 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" hex head bolts Grade 5 (201-0440), 4 3/8"-16 x 2" hex head bolts Grade 5 (201-0444), 2 #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), 2 #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), 4 3/8" flat washers (203-0003), 6 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), 2 #10 lock washers (203-0054), 1 electrical bracket (299-0685), 2 class III safety cables (226-0046), 4 3/8" quicklinks (229-0359), 6 6.3MM plastic rivets (229-0536), and 2 black cap plug receivers (290-0437).
Required tools are: flat screwdriver, torque wrench, 13/32" drill bit, 10MM socket, 9/16" socket, and T20 Torx. You will also need Loctite Red to apply to all bolt threads before tightening.
Yes. The upper grille and front fascia must be removed before baseplate installation and reinstalled after. The manual specifies that the grille is removed first using a T20 Torx to remove bolts from the top edge, then releasing tabs to pull it forward. The fascia is then removed by taking out bolts, releasing tabs, and unplugging electrical connections. Both components are reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted.
Yes. The manual states that some drilling and trimming is required. Specifically, in step 12, you must drill a hole into the frame using a 13/32" drill bit, using the baseplate as a template. Additionally, the manual notes that some vehicles may need to have existing holes reamed to acquire proper fit. A hole must also be drilled according to the BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit instructions.
Yes. In step 10, you must remove one bolt from each hub using a 10MM socket and remove the hubs, setting them aside. After the baseplate is installed, the hubs are reinstalled in step 13 using the existing bolts.
Yes. The manual notes that some 2005 models may have rivets instead of push pins in the wheel well edge. If your vehicle has rivets, remove them with side cutters in step 5. The plastic rivets provided in the hardware kit (part 229-0536) are used to replace them during reinstallation in step 14.
Yes. The manual notes that some models may not have the Torx metric bolts on the top edge of the grille. If your vehicle does not have these bolts, proceed with the other grille removal steps as described.
Some models may have tow hooks that will need to be removed and will not be reinstalled. The manual does not specify which model years have tow hooks, so check your vehicle during the installation process. If present, they should be removed to allow proper baseplate installation.
The manual provides a general torque chart for metric and inch bolts by grade. For 3/8" bolts (which are Grade 5 in the BX1122 kit), the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. However, the manual emphasizes using Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tightening all bolts according to the torque chart provided. Consult the torque chart on page 1 for the specific grade of any replacement bolts.
According to the torque chart on page 1, 10MM Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 31 foot-pounds, and 10MM Grade 8.8 bolts to 16 foot-pounds. The manual specifies using Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening to the appropriate torque.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your Jeep Liberty's GVWR when towing.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1122 kit includes 2 class III safety cables (part 226-0046) and 4 3/8" quicklinks (part 229-0359). In step 13, you attach these cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not rub against any hoses or moving parts. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When using a reciprocating saw, be aware of objects behind the cutting surface. After drilling, use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
Before reinstalling the fascia, be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. In step 14, ensure that all electrical components are plugged in properly when reinstalling the fascia and grille.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Additionally, ensure that the permanent baseplate safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
Yes. The manual recommends removing the attachment tabs when not in use, if applicable.
Yes. Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do "fit work". Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Technical Service Department at (402) 385-3051.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2005-07 Jeep Liberty. The manual instructs you to drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions. While recommended, the manual does not explicitly state whether it is included in the baseplate kit or must be purchased separately.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these requirements will void the manufacturer's warranty.
The BX1122 has a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, misuse, normal wear and tear, paint or rust, or accidents. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle voids the warranty.

Additionally, warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase.

Some vehicles may need to have the existing holes reamed to acquire proper fit. The manual notes this in step 11. If reaming is necessary, use appropriate tools to enlarge the holes to the correct diameter to allow the backing plates and nut plates to align properly with the baseplate.
Remove the rivets with side cutters in step 5. After baseplate installation is complete, replace them with the plastic rivets provided in the hardware kit (part 229-0536) during step 14 when reinstalling the fascia and grille.
Some models may not have the Torx metric bolts on the top edge of the grille. If your vehicle does not have these bolts, skip step 1 and proceed directly to step 2 to lift the tabs and remove the grille.
