Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Additionally, the middle bottom hole on the frame must be slotted and bent back to create an access hole. After installation, you may need to ream out the bottom hole with a drill bit if it does not completely line up.
Yes. The belly pan must be marked and trimmed to allow room for the baseplate after installation. The manual also notes that slotting and bending of the frame is required to create an access hole.
Yes. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.

Remove the white cover in the back inside of the vehicle. Using a 10MM socket, remove the gray nut. The tail light can then be pulled out of the housing. Repeat on both sides of the vehicle.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
No. Do not attach winch cable to flat towing equipment.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Permanent baseplate safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle.
Yes. Ensure that your product is registered online at www.blueox.com. It is crucial to register your product so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The manual shows the recommended installation of the cables to the frame of the vehicle. Additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in case of interference, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
1. Remove belly pan (7 bolts with 13MM socket). 2. Unplug electrical on passenger side and remove bumper (4 nuts with 18MM socket on each side). 3. Remove bracket bolts (1 bolt with 16MM socket on each side) and push pins. 4. Slot and bend the middle bottom hole on the frame. 5. Slide baseplate onto vehicle and start front 10MM bolts with flat and lock washers (snug but do not use Loctite Red yet). 6. Drill out top back hole with 1/2" bit on both sides. 7. Insert spacer plate between frame and baseplate, insert 1/2" bolt with lock washer and whiz nut, turn spacer plate flush and tighten. 8. Remove top front bolt, insert frame bracket, reinstall bolt and hardware. 9. Install 1/2" bolt with lock washer and whiz nut into bottom hole (ream if needed). 10. Attach safety cables to convenience link. 11. Reinstall bumper and plug in electrical. 12. Mark and trim belly pan, then reinstall. 13. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads and tighten to appropriate torque.
No. When you first slide the baseplate onto the vehicle and start the front 10MM bolts, snug them up tight so remaining holes line up but do not use Loctite Red at this time. After all bolts are in place and aligned, apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque.
The spacer plate is inserted between the frame and the baseplate at the top back hole. After inserting the 1/2" bolt with lock washer and whiz nut into the back hole, you turn the spacer plate so that it is flush with the baseplate and then tighten the bolt. This is done on both sides of the vehicle.
The frame bracket is inserted between the frame and the baseplate at the top front bolt location. It must be flush with the front of the frame. The bolt and hardware are then reinstalled through the bracket. This is done on both sides of the vehicle.
If the hole does not completely line up, ream out the hole with a drill bit.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox dealer or distributor. Failing to follow these guidelines will void the manufacturer's warranty.

Yes, the BX1139 is designed for all 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited (JL) models, including ACC, 4xe, and 392 variants, with all factory bumpers including factory winch systems.
Yes. You must drill out the top back hole on the frame using a 1/2" drill bit on both sides, slot and bend the middle bottom hole, and may need to ream the bottom hole if it does not line up. Trimming of the belly pan is also required.
Reciprocating saw, torque wrench, drill with 1/2" bit, Loctite Red, and sockets: 13MM, 16MM, 17MM, 18MM, 7/16", and 3/4", plus 5/16" nut driver and 7/16" wrench.
Yes, both the bumper and belly pan must be removed and then reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Use the torque chart provided in the manual based on bolt size and grade. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening. For example, 1/2" Grade 5 bolts = 78 ft-lbs, 1/2" Grade 8 = 119 ft-lbs.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Tighten bolts to recommended torque using Loctite Red. Register your product at www.blueox.com for safety bulletins and recalls.
