Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes. The fascia and fascia cover must be removed for baseplate installation and then reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted. The manual notes that some trimming of the fascia is required.
Yes. You must drill out three pop rivets underneath the vehicle in front of each tire using a 1/4" drill bit. This is done on both sides of the vehicle. The manual also notes that some trimming of the fascia is required.
Trimming requirements depend on your vehicle configuration. For non-shutter models: trim the fascia on one side to allow room for the electrical bracket, and remove horizontal slats from the corner of the fascia on both sides. For shutter models: trim the fascia to allow room for the electrical bracket, remove the middle shutter to access the shutter housing, cut a hole in the top of the shutter housing for electrical routing, mark and trim the shutter before reinstalling, and optionally trim fascia for the breakaway switch. If installing a breakaway switch, trim fascia and install the switch before reinstalling the shutter.
10MM Grade 8.8 bolts should be torqued to 16 foot-pounds.
1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 10 foot-pounds.
3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Yes. Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses or brake lines.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended torque specifications.

The installation sequence is: (1) remove fascia cover and fascia; (2) remove wheel well covers and trim; (3) remove frame extension and bumper; (4) slide first baseplate into place and start bolts without fully tightening; (5) tape spacer plate to bumper and reinstall bumper with spacer plate; (6) slide second baseplate into place and start bolts; (7) install bottom bumper bolts; (8) apply Loctite Red to bottom baseplate bolts and tighten all hardware; (9) install brackets on top of bumper; (10) attach safety cables; (11) install electrical bracket and trim fascia as needed; (12) reinstall fascia and fascia cover.
Yes. A spacer plate (part 101-10407, 1/4" x 1" x 4" with slots) is placed between the bumper and the frame at the top of the bumper. The spacer plate is taped in position on the back of the bumper before the bumper is reinstalled.
The frame extension is removed using a 15MM socket to remove three bolts and a 10MM socket to remove the nut. The frame extension will not be reinstalled.
When removing the fascia, unhook the plug on the driver side by pulling out the yellow piece and up on the red part to unhook. Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.

Both procedures are done on both sides of the vehicle.
Place all removed components on a flat, sturdy surface. All items will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted after the baseplate is installed. The frame extension will not be reinstalled.
There are thirteen push pins on the fascia cover: six on each side and one in the center.
The electrical bracket is secured using two 1/4" bolts with hardware (nylon nuts and washers). For non-shutter models, the bracket is installed on the side of the fascia. For shutter models, the bracket is installed through a hole cut in the top of the shutter housing.
The breakaway switch is attached to the electrical mounting bracket using one 1/4" bolt and nut. This is optional and requires trimming the fascia to allow room for the switch. If installing on shutter models, trim fascia and install the switch before reinstalling the shutter.
The bracket on top of the bumper is secured to the baseplate using two 3/8" x 4-1/2" bolts with nylon lock nuts on each side of the vehicle.
New plastic rivets (6.3MM) are installed into the underside of the fascia where the factory rivets were removed during the installation process.
Handling of some cosmetic parts may require the use of protective covers, rags, and specialty tools to prevent damage.

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The warranty is void if the product is improperly installed, improperly used, modified, neglected, not properly serviced and maintained, misused, damaged in an accident, or if the user fails to follow the instructional material. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. Coverage requires the customer warranty card to be returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice.

No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Failing to follow this requirement will void the manufacturer's warranty. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor.
Yes. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty.
You need: torque wrench, drill with 1/4" bit, sockets (8MM, 10MM, 15MM, 17MM, 7/16", 9/16"), wrenches (7/16", 9/16", 3/4"), T30 Torx, 5/16" nut driver, flat screwdriver, utility knife, and Loctite Red.
