Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. The BX1711 kit includes 2 class IV safety cables (part 226-0049) and 2 quicklinks (part 229-0512). However, permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The manual shows recommended installation of the cables to the frame of the vehicle. Additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in that case, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.

The warranty is voided by: incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification or neglect of product, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, act of God, accident, failure to follow guidelines in the instructional material, exceeding the vehicle's GVWR, or towing behind a non-motorized vehicle. The warranty also does not cover normal wear and tear, paint or rust. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use only a replacement bolt of the same grade to avoid voiding the warranty.
No. If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, you must use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Using non-matching bolt grades could compromise the structural integrity of the installation and will void the manufacturer's warranty. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor.
Install the top outer bolts first, then push in on the bottom of the bumper to line up the inner bottom bolts. Clamp the bumper when the hole is lined up and reinstall the lower bolts. Continue to reinstall the bumper bar bolts and reconnect the electrical connections on the underside of the bumper.
Position the appropriate baseplate (driver or passenger side) into the tow hook pocket. Install 1/2"-13 x 5" bolts from the outside of the frame with the convenience link, 1/2" lock washers and lock nuts on the inside of the frame. Tighten down until the frame squeezes against the baseplate. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
Place the convenience link against the frame and pin the front hole with a 1/2" bolt. Level the link and mark the frame for the rear hole. Do this on the inside passenger and outside driver frame rails. Using a 1/2" drill bit, drill out both holes to line up with the existing holes on the other side of the frame.
