Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Installation involves removal and reinstallation of the fascia cover and fascia. Some drilling and trimming is required. The fascia cover, hood latch handle, wheel well liners, belly pan, side covers, and rear cover (on Tahoe) or rear cover (on Yukon) must be removed. For vehicles with ACC, the ACC bracket must be temporarily removed. Holes must be drilled in the frame, and the fascia may need to be trimmed for clearance.
Yes, drilling is required. On the passenger side, two holes must be drilled into the side of the frame using a 1/2" drill bit. On both sides, one hole must be drilled through the bottom of the frame using a 1/2" drill bit. The baseplate holes are used as a guide for the bottom holes.
Yes, trimming is required. The fascia must be marked and trimmed as needed for clearance with the baseplate components. Additionally, the two vertical supports of the mounting bracket for the belly pan must be cut approximately 2" from the top and flush with the top of the lower cross member using a saw.
Yes. For vehicles with ACC, the side flange must be removed from the Adaptive Cruise Control mounting bracket using a saw. The ACC bracket itself must be temporarily removed by unbolting it (do not unplug the ACC sensor as it may trip an error code), and then reinstalled after the baseplate is in place.
Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting.
The manual provides general torque specifications for metric and inch bolts by grade. For the 1/2"-13 bolts used in this baseplate (Grade 5), the torque specification is 78 foot-pounds. All bolts must be tightened to the appropriate torque using Loctite Red on all bolt threads. Refer to the bolt torque chart on page 1 for other bolt sizes used in the kit.
The torque specification for 1/2"-13 Grade 5 bolts is 78 foot-pounds.
The torque specification for 1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts is 10 foot-pounds.
The kit includes an electrical bracket (101-10408), a 4-pin connector, a 6-pin connector, and a breakaway switch. A tail light wiring kit (BX8869 for bulbs or BX8848 for LED) is recommended but sold separately.
If you are using the BX8869 tail light wiring kit (for vehicles with bulbs), you must drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions. The BX8848 kit (for LED tail lights) does not require this drilling.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Yes. The BX1745 includes two class IV safety cables (226-0049) and two 1/2" quicklinks (229-0512). These permanent baseplate safety cables must be attached to the baseplate and secured to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They are strongly recommended to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
No. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Verify that the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Ensure the fascia is trimmed as needed for clearance with the baseplate components.
Yes. It is crucial to register your product online at www.blueox.com so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
Yes. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use (if applicable).
The BX1745 fits 2021-2024 Chevy Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL without diesel engines. It does not fit Z71 (Chevy) or AT4 (GMC) models.
You will need: torque wrench, reciprocating saw, drill with 1/2" bit, vise grips, T15 and T25 Torx, sockets (7MM, 10MM, 7/16", 3/4"), wrenches (7/16", 3/4"), flat screwdriver, and Loctite Red.
Yes. You must drill two 1/2" holes in the frame on the passenger side and one 1/2" hole through the bottom of the frame on each side. Trimming of the fascia and cutting of the belly pan mounting bracket are also required.
Tighten 1/2"-13 Grade 5 bolts to 78 foot-pounds. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
Yes. Two class IV safety cables and two 1/2" quicklinks are included. They must be attached to the baseplate and secured to the vehicle frame, and must not contact wires, hoses, or brake lines.
Yes. The BX8869 kit is recommended for vehicles with bulbs, and the BX8848 kit for LED tail lights. These are sold separately and may require drilling a hole (BX8869 only).
The baseplate is tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident or is damaged or missing parts, it must be replaced and not reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using a damaged baseplate could result in more damage or serious injury.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Check that the two electrical connections on the passenger side behind the fascia are fully seated. If using a tail light wiring kit, verify that the kit is properly installed according to its instructions.
Reposition the safety cables so they do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The cables must be secured to a solid piece of the frame and routed away from fluid lines, electrical wires, and brake lines. If necessary, use a different mounting point on the frame.
