Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The fascia cover and windshield washer fluid reservoir are removed and reinstalled for baseplate installation. Additionally, the hood latch handle, wheel well liners, belly pan, belly pan side covers, and rear covers (Tahoe models) must be removed. For Yukon/Yukon XL models, a plastic piece on the back side of the fascia is removed and not reinstalled. All removed items should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface and reinstalled after baseplate installation unless otherwise noted.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. If using the BX8869, you will need to drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two holes on the driver side using the baseplate as a template with a 1/2" drill bit. The top hole on the driver side will need to be drilled at an angle. Additionally, you must drill the bottom two holes on each side of the vehicle using the baseplate as a template. Some existing holes may need to be reamed out for hardware to fit.
Trimming is required in several areas: the shutter shroud must be removed using a reciprocating saw so that it is flush with the shutter housing. For models with Adaptive Cruise Control, the side flange from the ACC mounting bracket must be removed using a saw, and the ACC bracket must be trimmed as shown in the instructions. For Yukon/Yukon XL models, the indicated area from the back side of the fascia must be trimmed and removed to allow clearance for the baseplate on both sides. Finally, the fascia must be marked and trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs.

No, do not unplug the ACC sensor as it may trip an error code on the vehicle. For models with ACC, you should remove the four mounting bolts from the ACC and allow the bracket to hang out of the way during installation, but leave the sensor plugged in. The bracket will be reinstalled after the baseplate is in place.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia. This includes the electrical connections on both sides of the vehicle behind the fascia that were unplugged during removal.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1751 includes 2 x Class IV Safety Cables (226-0049) and 2 x 1/2" Quicklinks (229-0512). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. After installation, it is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.

Yes, you should ensure that your product is registered online at www.blueox.com. It is crucial to register your product so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
No, you must use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these requirements will void the manufacturer's warranty.

The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Check your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications.
Yes, the kit includes 2 Class IV Safety Cables and 2 Quicklinks. These must be connected from the baseplate to the vehicle's frame rail or cross member and are recommended for all towing. They do not replace legally required safety cables between the towed and towing vehicles.
Verify all electrical connections are plugged in and functioning before reinstalling the fascia. Before each towing trip, inspect the baseplate for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are torqued to specification with Loctite Red applied.
You may need to ream out existing holes for hardware to fit. Use the baseplate as a template to drill new holes where needed. For the driver side, drill two holes using a 1/2" drill bit, with the top hole drilled at an angle. For the bottom of the vehicle, drill two holes on each side using the baseplate as a template.
If an error code appears, it may be because the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) sensor was unplugged during installation. Do not unplug the ACC sensor as it may trip an error code on the vehicle. If you have already unplugged it, reconnect it immediately. Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
