Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the fascia must be removed and reinstalled. The installation process requires removing multiple screws from the top edge, wheel wells, underside, and behind the wheel well covers, then unsnapping and unplugging the fascia before removing it. After baseplate installation, the fascia is trimmed and reinstalled.
1. Remove four (4) screws from the top edge of the fascia using T30 Torx (two on each side). 2. Remove three (3) screws from the wheel well in front of the tire using Phillips screwdriver (repeat on other side). 3. Remove one (1) screw from behind the wheel well cover where fascia meets fender using T30 Torx (repeat on other side). 4. Remove one (1) screw from the underside bottom corner of the fascia using Phillips screwdriver (repeat on other side). 5. Remove three (3) screws from the underside of the fascia using T30 Torx; do not remove the silver screw. 6. Unsnap the fascia from each side, unplug all electrical connections, then pull fascia outward to remove.
Using a 15MM socket, remove four (4) larger bolts from the bumper (white). Using a 10MM socket, remove two (2) smaller bolts (gray). Repeat on the other side of the vehicle. The metal bumper and smaller bolts will not be reused.
The baseplate is installed onto the vehicle using the existing spacer and 10MM bolts. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque according to the torque chart provided.
Yes, some trimming is required. After the baseplate is installed, hold the fascia up to the vehicle as close to its original position as possible. Mark and trim with a utility knife until the fascia is clear of the attachment tabs and convenience links, then reinstall the fascia.
Drilling is not required for the baseplate itself. However, if you install the optional BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit, you will need to drill a 1" hole into the metal portion of the light using a 1" hole saw.
The manual provides a general torque chart for metric bolts but does not specify the grade of the existing 10MM bolts used to mount the baseplate. According to the chart, Grade 8.8 metric 10MM bolts require 31 foot-pounds, and Grade 10.9 require 40 foot-pounds. Consult the manual's torque chart or contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 to confirm the correct grade and torque specification for your vehicle's existing bolts.

22 foot-pounds.
All electrical connections to the fascia must be unplugged before pulling the fascia outward to remove it. The manual does not specify which individual connectors or their locations; refer to your vehicle's wiring diagram or consult a Blue Ox Dealer for specific connector details.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Consult your vehicle owner's manual for your specific GVWR and towing capacity.
Yes. The BX2805 includes two Class III safety cables that must be attached to the baseplate. These permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended and must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are in addition to, not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate using the included 3/8" quicklinks. The manual shows two recommended installation options: Option 1 with convenience link tabs (cables around crossmember or frame of the towed vehicle), and Option 2 without convenience link tabs. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Install on both sides of the vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. After installation, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended torque specifications using Loctite Red.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The permanent baseplate safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. Attachment tabs may be removed when not in use.
