Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Required tools are: 7MM, 8MM, 10MM, 13MM, and 17MM wrenches; Phillips screwdriver; 1/4", 9/32", and 13/32" drill bits; vise grips; and Loctite Blue. A power drill is necessary for drilling multiple holes in the frame and bumper.

Yes. Loctite Blue is required but not included. The manual specifies that Loctite must be applied to all bolts before tightening. Loctite Blue is listed in the Tools Required section.
You must remove: 6 push pins from the top of the grille, 2 metric bolts from the top of the grille, the front fascia, 3 metric screws from each side near the wheel well, 8 push pins from the bottom of the fascia, the metal bumper (which requires removing a temperature sensor, 2 push pins from the coolant line, and 4 metric bolts from inside the bumper ends), 2 push pins from the air dam on both sides, the horn bracket and electrical connection, and the vacuum tank from the driver's side.
No. The manual states that the factory horn bracket will not be reused. A new horn bracket (item 9, part number 102-6080) is provided in the baseplate kit and must be installed during reassembly.
Yes. Extensive drilling is required. You must drill four 13/32" holes on the front side of the baseplate, four 13/32" holes on the back side of the metal bumper, four 13/32" holes on the underside of the metal bumper, additional 13/32" holes on the end plates, and one 1/4" hole in the bottom of the metal bumper for the temperature sensor. All drilling uses the baseplate as a template.
The primary mounting holes are 13/32" diameter. This size is used for the four holes on the front side of the baseplate, four holes on the back side of the metal bumper, four holes on the underside of the metal bumper, and additional holes on the end plates.
The temperature sensor hole in the bottom of the metal bumper is 1/4" diameter.
Yes. Some trimming is required to the air dam below the metal bumper before reinstalling it (step 15). Additionally, some trimming may be required to the fascia when reinstalling it (step 16). The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable, and it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to accommodate these variations.
1. Remove front fascia, metal bumper, horn bracket, vacuum tank, and air dam. 2. Position baseplate so the top edge of end plates is flush with the top frame webbing. 3. Drill four 13/32" holes on the front side of the baseplate using it as a template; insert fasteners but do not tighten. 4. Drill four 13/32" holes on the back side of the metal bumper; install fasteners and tighten with Loctite. 5. Drill four 13/32" holes on the underside of the metal bumper; insert bolt plate and tighten fasteners with Loctite. 6. Drill remaining 13/32" holes on end plates; install fasteners with Loctite. 7. Drill 1/4" hole for temperature sensor; reinstall end caps. 8. Reinstall horn bracket with Loctite. 9. Trim air dam and fascia as needed; reinstall both. 10. Install tow bar and safety cables per their instructions.

Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system; the combined rating of two cables together does not qualify. Permanent baseplate safety cables must be used in conjunction with, and are not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation. The manual provides illustrations of recommended cable arrangements.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications using Loctite Red. It is the owner's responsibility to perform these inspections.
