Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The installation sequence is: (1) Remove tow hooks from front fascia using 24MM socket or T-30 Torx socket. (2) Remove metric bolts from upper front fascia using 10MM socket (both sides). (3) Remove metric bolts from front of upper fascia using 10MM socket (both sides). (4) Remove metric bolts from inside grill near headlight using 10MM socket (both sides). (5) Release grill clips and pull forward. (6) Remove push pins from lower front fascia (both sides). (7) Remove metric bolts from bottom of lower fascia where belly pan meets it using 13MM socket (both sides). (8) Pull back webbing and remove metric bolts using 13MM socket (both sides). (9) For 2009 models only: remove metric bolt from impact bar support using 10MM socket (both sides). (10) Remove metric bolts from tow hook bracket using 18MM socket and pull lower bumper fascia forward. (11) Insert existing bolts but do not fully tighten bracket next to frame rail. (12) Using baseplate as template, drill holes with 13/32" drill bit. (13) Insert nut plates and tighten 3/8-16 hex bolts with lock washers to 33 ft-lbs using Loctite RED. (14) Remove existing bolt and hex nuts, replace fascias. (15) Align baseplate with existing holes on metal bumper fascia and tighten. (16) Attach permanent baseplate safety cables. (17) Install tow bar and safety cables per tow bar instructions. (18) Do not substitute other devices if tow bar pins and clips are misplaced.
No. In step 11, you insert the existing bolts but do not fully tighten the bracket so that it sits up next to the frame rail. The bolts are fully tightened later after the nut plates are installed and aligned in step 13.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The recommended installation is to secure the cables to the frame of the vehicle. If additional options interfere with the suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
