Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

The removal process involves removing bolts from above the headlights, from the top of the fascia, from inside the wheel wells, from the bottom of the fascia, and pushpins forward of the front tire. The fascia is then pulled forward and removed carefully for reinstallation after baseplate installation.
Yes. On the driver's side, the horn bracket must be removed by unbolting it from the bottom using a 10mm socket. The horn is then relocated to the top of the frame using a 1/4-20 x 3/4" bolt and 1/4-20 whiz nut after baseplate installation.
On the driver's side, a sensor wire must be disconnected from the side of the frame and the bottom of the metal bumper to clear the area for cutting. After baseplate installation, the sensor is zip-tied to the bottom of the baseplate and reconnected.

Yes. The metal bumper must be trimmed. Using a reciprocating saw, the end of the bumper is cut straight down so that it is flush with the frame on both sides of the vehicle. Additional horizontal and vertical cuts are made to remove the bumper section that would interfere with baseplate installation.
Yes. Drilling is required. A 1 1/4" hole saw is used to drill into the front of the frame rail on both sides to open an area for inserting nut plates. A 13/32" drill bit is then used to drill four holes into the frame rail on each side and two holes into the underside of the frame on each side for bolt installation.

Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1129 kit includes 2 x permanent baseplate safety cables (part 226-0046). These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. However, these cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables should be attached to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The recommended installation attaches the cables to the frame of the vehicle. If additional options interfere with the suggested mounting, the cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. The safety cables must not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
Failure to read and follow the installation instructions could result in separation of the towed vehicle from the tow bar, causing property damage, loss of towed vehicle, personal injury or death. Additionally, improper installation against wires or hoses could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts. When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length.
Before installing the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. After installation, the owner is responsible for inspecting all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. All bolts should be checked and tightened to the recommended torque specifications using Loctite RED.

Do NOT substitute homemade or non-typical parts.
If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. For your safety and the preservation of your baseplate, be sure to use a replacement bolt of the same grade.

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original (first) retail purchaser. The product is warranted to be free from defect in material and workmanship under normal use and service for three years from the date of delivery. During this period, Automatic Equipment Manufacturing Company will repair or replace any parts found to be defective. Warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, normal wear and tear, paint or rust.
